Ted Cruz Advisor Has Great Question About That Ray Epps Interview

My colleague Jennifer Oliver O’Connell wrote about the interview that “60 Minutes” did with Ray Epps. It amounted to “60 Minutes” screaming to leave him alone. But people had questions because it seemed like everyone that even breathed near the Capitol that day including grandmas was locked up or pursued into next week. Then there were his statements about going to the Capitol that were caught on video. Then the other question was why Democrats including those on the Jan. 6 Committee and some of the media seemed concentrated on defending him when they’ve demonized every other person. related to Jan. 6.

“60 Minutes” said that they’d received an answer to their “repeated queries” to the FBI about Epps, “Ray Epps has never been an FBI source or an FBI employee.”

But the special advisor for communications to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Steve Guest, had a good question. Cruz asked last year, “How many FBI agents or confidential informants actively participated in the events of January 6th?” He also asked about Ray Epps, if he was a “Fed.”

But the FBI official Jill Sanborn wouldn’t say, and refused to answer one way or the other when he asked if Epps was a “fed”?

“I cannot answer that,” Sanborn responded.

Why is the FBI only answering “60 Minutes” now? This failure also excited more comments from people about Epps’ status, because once again, as with so many other things, the FBI refused to be straight -forward on the matter. These are the same folks who now have reportedly been looking to develop sources within Catholic Churches to fink on their fellow congregants.

Now, I’m not saying that Epps is a “fed.” However, it isn’t hard to see that there is a fundamental difference between a statement to Congress and one to “60 Minutes,” as some noted.

But even if you’re not under oath, it’s still a potential crime to intentionally say something false to Congress.

The FBI statement was also terse to say the least, only covering the FBI being a source or employee. It doesn’t deny other agencies. While the FBI is now disavowing Epps in a statement, not under oath or to Congress, there have been other reports about informants, including about one high up in the Oathkeepers who was allegedly secretly reporting about the group’s activities in the lead-up to Jan. 6. There were other reports including one my colleague Jeff Charles wrote about including Washington, D.C. Metro Police Department informants.

It isn’t the people asking the questions that are the oddity here. It’s the way that the FBI and our government have moved away from the concept that they owe us transparency and answers. They serve us, we do not work for them. They owe us answers, not dodges.
