We saw Joe Biden get caught not wearing a mask in an expensive restaurant over the weekend. Then, today, the White House effectively saying “rules for thee” but not for him — that we shouldn’t focus on when he breaks the rules that he wants to apply to everyone else.
But he wasn’t the only Democrat to trip over “rules for thee” this weekend.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot broke both the local and state mandates when she went unmasked indoors at the WNBA finals in a packed Wintrust Arena in Chicago. After the home team won, Lightfoot posted a picture of herself, celebrating with the fans.
She was the only one without a mask violating her own rules, as well as the rules of the state and the arena.
Lightfoot has been busted in the past violating her own COVID restrictions when she went out and got a haircut when such services were shut down for everyone else last year. Her excuse? She said she’s the “public face of the city” and “I felt like I needed to have a haircut.”
She also was busted in May not wearing a mask at a crowded restaurant when she was encouraging everyone to wear a mask in public.
But while Lightfoot is ignoring her own rules and doing what she wishes, she’s coming down hard on the Chicago police who are refusing to get vaccinated and threatening their livelihoods.
Police were required to report their vaccination status on Friday or face being potentially placed on unpaid leave. A third of the police force refused to report their status.
More than a third of Chicago Police officers defied the city’s vaccine mandate by not reporting their status. Only 64 percent complied, the lowest of any city department. Not far behind them was the Fire Department. See the complete list below: pic.twitter.com/rTomFpz98q

That means about 4500 of the city’s total 12,770 officers could be placed on no-pay status in the foreseeable future and then face more discipline including possible termination in the future.
In a city that already is rife with crime, that’s likely to be a big problem. But that’s what Lightfoot is now forcing upon the people, while railing against the police. She accused them of fomenting an “insurrection” because of the union’s objections to the mandate.

The Department also indicated they might even try to go after people who opted to retire rather than be vaccinated and deny those people their retirement benefits in an unbelievable move, according to the Chicago Tribune.
But the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) is standing against the mandate and telling their people to hold the line.
Last week, FOP President John Catanzara said that if officers were turned away, the city would have a police force “at 50% or less for this weekend coming up.”
He also instructed officers to file for exemptions to receiving vaccines but to not enter that information into the city’s portal, telling the rank-and-file, “I do not believe the city has the authority to mandate that to anybody, let alone that information about your medical history.”
The FOP posted instructions on its website for what officers should do if given a direct order to report on the city portal their vaccination status. This time, it posted a letter that officers could sign and present to their superiors.
The document states: “Complying with this INVALID order and the violation of MY Bargaining, Constitutional and Civil Rights has furthermore caused me severe anxiety while challenging both my religious and moral beliefs. I am in fact complying with this because I am being forced to do so under complete duress and threats of termination.”
If Lightfoot goes through with this, she’s going to throw the city into chaos. But she doesn’t care, because it’s all about the exercise of control and they’d rather get rid of anyone who would dare to challenge them, no matter how much it might hurt them or the city.
