At what point is enough enough?

Mayor Jenny Durkan said last week that she would start “winding down” the CHOP where radical extremists have been camped out for weeks in a six block region in Seattle after shootings last weekend that resulted in one dead and at least two others wounded.

But while despite holding meetings with organizers in the CHOP and an aborted attempt on Friday to reportedly go back into the East Precinct, Durkan’s done nothing to clear out the area and the problems have continued.

Last night there was another shooting, with one dead and another wounded.

The facts are still coming out but the alleged story, supplied in part by CHOP witnesses, livestreams and Facebook Live is that there was a white vehicle that was doing donuts in the part and possibly threatening or shooting there. Then the same vehicle allegedly tried to drive into the barricades where CHOP armed security then allegedly fired on the people in the car.

Chief Carmen Best gave a press conference this morning and said it was too soon to say much yet about the shooting. But she did note that the two people shot were both black and that one was a 14 year old teenager. She also, interestingly, said that the things they would normally expect to be there in such an incident weren’t there, making it “abundantly clear to our detectives that people had been in and out of the car after the shooting,” suggesting evidence had been cleared away. She also said that the people in the CHOP were not being cooperative in their requests for help.

She talks about two men being dead, she’s referencing the prior killing of Lorenzo Anderson last weekend and tries to make the point that there is an ongoing problem.

“It’s very unfortunate that we have another murder in this area identified as the CHOP,” Best said Monday, according to KOMO. “Two African-American men… dead at a place where they claim to be working for Black Lives Matter but they’re gone. They’re dead now. And we’ve had multiple other incidents — assaults, rapes, robbery, shootings — so this is something that’s going to need to change.”

“We’re asking people to remove themselves from this area,” she said.

One of those things you might expect to find if the guys in the car were shooting? A gun. Where is that? Is it more than ironic that this is essentially their security or “police force” that is alleged to have been involved in a shooting that took a life when they are there wanting to defund the police?
