Paul Ryan Just Did Something a House Speaker Has Never Done Before

House Speaker Paul Ryan transferred a record $7 million to the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) in March.

The massive figure from March was a record for Ryan, bringing his total transfers to the NRCC to $16.4 million for the first quarter of 2017.

Ryan’s March total is the largest sum ever provided by a Speaker of the House in a single month.

“A year and a half ago, Paul Ryan became speaker with virtually no political infrastructure,” Team Ryan executive director Kevin Seifert said.

“Since then, he has established a national political operation that can be put up against anyone else.”

“Team Ryan was built around the Speaker’s focus on policy and his ability to articulate a positive, conservative vision for America,” he continued.

“This remains the focus and in the early part of 2017, Ryan has been humbled by the interest in the Republican agenda – to enact bold reforms and get our country back-on-track.”

“This continues to be a motivating force for our supporters across the country.”

The strong fundraising numbers come after Ryan failed to bring House Republicans on board to support his health care bill. The failure to fulfill a campaign promise was a major setback for Republicans, but Ryan has done a great job of putting his head down and getting to work for the Republican party.

Ryan’s transfers put Republicans in a strong position heading into 2018 Senate elections as it is gearing up to be a year in which Republicans are primed to take more seats in Congress.
