In this episode of "How Can This Possibly Be Legal?"...
Several Minneapolis public high schools are barring white and Asian students from enrolling in certain courses on Black culture, newly released documents show.
The classes, which count toward the district’s elective graduation requirement, leave white and Asian students with fewer options to fulfill those credits — and that's a problem.
One restricted course, "BLACK Culture – Building Lives Acquiring Cultural Knowledge," is open exclusively to Black male students, while another, BLACK Culture – Building Lives Acquiring Cultural Knowledge (Queens), accepts only Black female students.
Again, how is this not in violation of civil rights laws?
Defending Education, an organization that promotes itself as "a national grassroots organization working to restore schools at all levels from activists imposing harmful agendas through network and coalition building, investigative reporting, litigation, and engagement ... to fight indoctrination in classrooms and on campus to promote the reestablishment of a quality, non-political education for all students," weighed in on the news — in startling (yet not) fashion:
Minneapolis Public Schools’ ethnic studies courses feature content that teach students that capitalism and Western culture are exploitative and lead to slavery, colonialism, genocide, and white supremacy.
According to documents obtained through a data practices request, Minneapolis Public Schools’ ethnic studies curriculum features multiple course options which include content such as critical race theory, colonialism, intersectionality, social justice activism, and the pillars of white supremacy. The courses also include texts by Ibram X. Kendi and Howard Zinn.
For example, South High School, Minneapolis’s oldest and largest public high school — where most students are Black or Hispanic —lists both courses in its 2025–2026 curriculum guide, according to documents obtained by Washington Free Beacon.
The first course explores “the complexity of the Black male experience” and “the lived reality of Black men in the United States,” while the second focuses on (attempts to exploit) “the experiences of Black girls in public schools.” The guide explicitly states the classes are open exclusively to “all Black male students” and “all Black female students,” respectively.
Imagine, for a nanosecond, the histrionic meltdown on the left — including, of course, within the entire Democrat Party and its left-wing media — in a predominantly white public school system tried the same racist nonsense in reverse, barring Black students from courses on "white culture."
Speaking of "reverse," I'm beyond tired of the absurd notion of "reverse racism." Racism is racism, regardless of which direction it flows from.

Dan Morenoff, the executive director of the American Civil Rights Project, a public interest law firm, told the Free Beacon it's "extremely hard to imagine how this could possibly be legal under either Title VI [of the Civil Rights Act of 1964] or Title IX [of the Education Amendment of 1972] to literally have programming explicitly open only to one race."
While I'm neither a civil rights scholar nor an expert on Title VI or Title IX, I do know enough about both to have to believe this clearly race-focused effort is going to ultimately be struck down (Supreme Court Association Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson aside).
