When serial liars get caught lying, their natural and first inclination is to continue to lie even more, often to the point of ridiculousness — and even beyond. Heck, I've seen liars get angry or even get their feelings hurt when their lies weren't believed.
Enter: Former FBI Director James Comey.
Comey, whose Trump Derangement Syndrome became legendary during his hyperpartisan stint as FBI Director, found himself in a bit of a festering pickle because of an image he posted on X (formerly Twitter) of seashells arranged as "86 47," which many people immediately recognized as "86 President Donald Trump."
"86," which for decades has meant to "take out" someone, was a popular mob term that means to take someone eight miles out and put them six feet underground. And of course, Trump is the 47th president of the United States.

Comey, as has always been his wont, has continued to feign innocence, first claiming he thought the arrangement of seashells was simply interesting. That excuse hasn't played well at all — except among other left-wingers and loathers of Trump.

So on Tuesday night, CBS "The Late Show" host Stephen Colbert trotted out Comey to hawk his new book, and also to offer another explanation of the seashell controversy.
Comey told Colbert he was walking on the beach with his wife, Patrice, when they noticed the formation of shells. Comey said his wife asked him, “Did someone put their address in the sand?”
The couple stared for a while before Comey said, before he realized it was likely a “clever political message.” He credited his wife with recognizing the term “86” to mean get rid of from her time working as a restaurant server. Comey told Colbert his wife then said, ‘You should take a picture of it.'
COMEY: “We stood at it — looked at it, trying to figure out what it was, and she had long been a server in restaurants and she said, ‘You know what I think it is? I think it’s a reference to restaurants when you would 86 something in a restaurant.’”
COLBERT: “Like off the menu.”
Comey: “Yeah. I said, ‘No, I remember when I was a kid, you would say 86 to get out of a place. ‘This place stinks, let’s 86 it.’”
COLBERT: “I was a bartender, you would 86 a customer if they were getting drunk. Like, ‘Let’s 86 them, give them a low-proof alcohol or something like that.’ Yeah.”
Raise your hand if you believe that horse pucky —including Colbert's attempt to fly wingman for Comey.
So here's the thing. If James Comey hadn't tried everything he could to end Trump's political career, if not throw him in jail, perhaps some folks might believe his ridiculous excuses for "86-47gate."
As we've seen countless times over the years, late-stage TDS riddles one's brain to the point of pathetic absurdity. Mr. Comey is one of those people.
