Utah Becomes First State to Ban Rainbow Flags in Schools, Government Buildings—Will Others Follow?

Let's begin by casting our minds back to the divisive days of President Joe Biden and his far-left administration's staunch advocacy of all things LGBTQ.

As a prime example, remember when LGBTQ activists heralded the administration for prominently displaying the "Progress Pride" flag on the White House, with American flags relegated to secondary status on both sides? Heady days indeed for the far-left, for sure.

That was then — this is now:

With President Donald Trump back in the White House, conservatives across the country are boldly speaking out against — and taking actions to stop — far-left insanity, including the championing of males pretending to be females blistering real females in female sporting events.

Months after the Trump State Department announced in late January that "only the United States of America flag is authorized to be flown or displayed at U.S. facilities, both domestic and abroad," Utah Republicans successfully passed legislation last Thursday banning the rainbow flag and other activist flags from public schools and all government buildings.

Anyway, as reported by The New York Times, the new Utah law also allows only flags explicitly exempt from the ban: an official Utah state flag; a historic version of the American or state flag; a municipal flag; a U.S. military flag; the National League of Families POW/MIA flag; a tribal flag; an official university or public school flag; and an Olympic flag. In addition to banning the Pride flag, flags in support of all political causes will be banned.

While I haven't bothered to check out the left's reaction to the ban, it's safe to assume vehement opposition.

The 'Shoe on the Other Foot' Test

Imagine for a nanosecond the hysterical reactions on the left — including among congressional Democrats and the lapdog media — if the Trump administration were to unfurl a "Don't Tread on Me" flag or an "Appeal to Heaven" flag on the White House — even if the flag was alongside a Pride flag. Leftists would howl at the moon and worse, spewing nonsense about "white supremacy," "Hitler," "Nazis," and "fascism."

Why?

Here's the thing. DEI doesn't only purport to support diversity and so-called "equity"; leftists across the fruited plain champion "inclusion" as well. Thing is, the actual definition of the term comes nowhere near their warped, hypocritical meaning or intent. Democrats and others on the left are very much opposed to black conservatives, gay conservatives, and conservative women, are they not? Of course they are — and the hypocrisy couldn't be more profound.

Here's more via The Times:

The new law is one of the most restrictive passed by a state to govern the display of flags, in what has become a polarizing debate largely focused on the Pride flag and other expressions of LGBTQ. support.

Other states, such as Idaho, have passed restrictions on the display of flags in schools, while lawmakers in Florida are considering similar proposals. Supporters of the measure have framed it as a way to make schools and government buildings less political.

"Framed it"? Please.

The Utah Pride Center said on social media on Friday that it was “deeply saddened” to see the bill become law.

We acknowledge the pain, frustration and fear that many in our community are feeling at this moment,” the center said. After the State Senate passed the bill, the center called it “a deliberate attempt to erase LGBTQIA+ visibility from the public sphere."

Nonsense. What the law does accomplish is banning selective support by state entities and public schools of all political causes.

Advocacy group Equality Utah said:

[The ban] sets a dangerous precedent that the state can silence the speech rights of local governments and makes the bill constitutionally suspect. We are LGBTQ. Utahns. This is our home. This is our country. We are not going anywhere.

Coupla problems:

First, Utah is not only the home of LGBTQ Utahns. It is also the home of all Utahns, including straight Utahns.

Second, no one is suggesting LGBTQ Utahns "go anywhere." What the new law principally says is displaying a flag supporting any political cause is now banned. Can't deal with it?

Then it's up to whomever to go wherever suits "their" particular fancy.
