As we reported on Thursday, NYC Mayor Eric Adams announced what amounts to the first of three emergency budgets, each of which will slash spending in critical areas, including for the New York Fire Department and Education Department. Moreover, the mayor said further cuts might be necessary.

On Friday, Adams went hat in hand to some of the city's wealthiest residents, pleading with them to help his Democrat-run city government stop the bleeding — the bleeding for which it is solely responsible.

As is the case with all big-city Democrat mayors, Eric Adams doesn't get it. Here's the "it," via Fox News National Correspondent Bill Melugin:

He has zero clue.

So yeah, by Friday, Adams was begging for cash — from some of the very people his Democrat city government continues to fleece. Speaking to an audience at the Harvard Club that included actor Tony Danza, billionaire businessman John Catsimatidis, and the former CEO of the sporting goods chain, Mitchell Modell, the mayor all but donned a Robin Hood costume.

This is a moment where it’s an all-hands-on-deck moment. The way it goes, [where] New York goes America goes, but I’m going to need you more than ever to support many of these organizations like PAL, Robin Hood Foundation, and others. A moment where our philanthropic interests must align with some of the gaps and services that we are seeing today.

Stop the tape. Nonsense. 

No, the majority of America doesn't go where New York City goes, nor does it go where San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, and multiple other Democrat-run hellholes go. And, while the philanthropic organizations Adams listed are worthy causes, financially responsible cities — like financially responsible families with budgets — choose to prioritize spending. This isn't rocket science, my Democrat friends.

Adams continued, asking his audience to in effect lay siege to their federal representatives, in addition to the woeful Biden administration.

I need your voice to reach out to Washington, D.C., and say this is your city. New York City is the economic agent of this entire country and we cannot continue to watch New York City carry a national crisis like we are witnessing now.

Memo to the mayor: 

New York City might be the economic agent of the country, to an extent, but guess what? That doesn't mean the rest of America is responsible for the irresponsible Democrat decisions that you and your government make on a regular basis.

After Adams dialed it back a bit, schmoozing about how his administration has helped better the lives of NYC kids, he went right back to begging:

We’re going to need you more than ever now. We, unfortunately, announced yesterday of [sic] some real painful cuts in our services. It’s going to impact every area of delivery of services in the city.

Say, mayor, for example, how about getting serious about violent crime and repeat offenders — and eliminating the revolving doors on NYC jail cells? Think you could save a ton of money, there? Me, too. Follow me for more tips.

Anyway, here's more:

The solicitation came during Adams’ first public comments since unveiling the first of three rounds of 5% cuts to New York City’s budget to account for the billions of dollars it’s on the hook for to take care of the tens of thousands of asylum seekers who have flooded the city.

As part of the belt-tightening plan, the NYPD will cancel the next five academy classes, bringing the levels of uniformed officers to the lowest in three decades by June 2025.

 Firefighters are also on the chopping block if they are out on “long-term light duties” — meaning they’ve been injured on the job or are out sick — in a move described as unbelievably callous by fire sources.

The city will soon see dirtier areas around pedestrian and park areas and have fewer public trash cans, mainly in the outer boroughs, with the Sanitation Department slashing nearly $100 million over the next two fiscal years under the plan.

In addition (and the irony couldn't be richer), NYC is expected to spend more than $12 billion on the care of illegal aliens — more than 140,000 of whom have arrived in the city since the spring of 2022, as the Biden Border Crisis rages on, unabated. But, hey — why not? Given that New City is a sanctuary city and all, right Mr. Mayor? 

The Bottom Line

Generally speaking, we get what we pay for, Mayor Adams. Unfortunately, what you and your city's former Democrat mayors have been paying for is exactly what you now face.
