Democrats 'Absolutely Furious' Over Highland Park Shooting, Yet Silent on Even Deadlier Weekend in Chicago

The song remains the same: Another mass shooting, gun-grabber Democrats call for curtailing the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners. Another deadly weekend on Chicago’s bloody Southside, gun-grabber Democrats remain silent. Yes, the hypocritical as hell song remains the same.

The obvious question: Why the histrionic reaction to “gun crime” in the first scenario–and not the latter?

The equally obvious answer: Because mass shootings, particularly when committed by white males with “assault rifles,” fit the Democrat narrative to a T, fueling the incessant drive to take away gun rights, while primarily black-on-black handgun murder, much of it gang-related, does not.

Moreover, the facts about the latter destroy the left’s arguments about the former.

Democrat lawmakers and strategists are “absolutely furious,” as reported by Politico, over the mass shooting at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois — roughly 25 miles north of downtown Chicago — that left seven people dead and more than 30 wounded.

As Politico also noted, Vice President Kamala Harris predictably parroted the Democrat schtick, “perfectly.”

“We need to end this horror. We need to stop his violence,” Harris said, calling for Congress to have the “courage” to act and renew the assault weapons ban. “And we must protect our communities from the terror of gun violence.”

Uh-huh, Kamala. But what about 32 miles to the south of Highland Park, where the violent Southside streets run red with blood on a near-daily basis? Where is your outcry about that “gun crime”? Where is the outcry of your president? The entire Democrat Party? Your lapdog media? Rhetorical questions; we’ve already answered them.

Camille Rivera, a Democrat strategist and partner at the far-left firm New Deal Strategies, went after Biden, bigly, accusing him of “missing the boat here.”

He’s missing the boat here. This is our time to dig in and be absolutely furious because these one-half measures are not working. He’s got a real excitability problem.

Our rights are being infringed upon and then there were two shootings on the exact day that people are supposed to be celebrating their independence. I really don’t understand where this passivity comes from in this situation.

Translation: Failing to heed the words of Rahm Emanuel, who admonished Democrats: “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.” Other translation: “passivity” = lack of more-aggressive gun-control laws.

Ironically — stay with me, here — Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering, in the aftermath of the parade shooting, as reported by my RedState colleague Jennifer Oliver O’Connell on Wednesday, declared America a nation “enslaved to guns,” and called for a nationwide ban on “assault weapons” (AKA: scary-looking semiautomatic rifles).

We banned assault weapons in 2013 and we managed to survive litigation from the NRA all the way to the United States Supreme Court. I would love to see a statewide ban. But let’s be honest, Indiana, Missouri, and Wisconsin are very close by, people travel interstate all the time. It needs to be a national effort. There needs to be a desire on the part of our leadership to stop the carnage.

Hang on, a sec. So, Highland Park banned “assault weapons” in 2013. Yet the Highland Park shooter reportedly used a “high-powered rifle” that was similar to an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle to shoot up the Fourth of July parade. With all due respect, mayor, what difference does it make that AR-15s and similar firearms are legally available in other states? If your ban was so effective, why didn’t the shooter adhere to Highland Park’s law? What’s that you (should) say, mayor? Evil doesn’t follow the law?

Meanwhile, what about the bloody streets of Chicago’s Southside?

As the faux histrionic Democrats continue to exploit the hell out of the Highland Park shooting, what about the deadly streets of Chicago’s Southside? More specifically, how’d things go — gun crime-wise — over the Fourth of July weekend? Here’s the down and dirty: At least 10 people died after being shot, and another 62 were wounded, in Chicago over the Fourth of July weekend, according to Just the News.

Twelve of the wounded were shot during three separate attacks on the city’s west and South sides. Four were shot Friday evening in West Garfield Park, five early Monday in Parkway Gardens, and three in Woodlawn early Tuesday, as firework displays and other July Fourth activities Monday night came to close.

Here’s more detail, as reported by Just the News.

One man was shot six times and killed while riding his bike at about 4 p.m. on Saturday. The man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. No arrests have yet been made.

A 5-year-old boy was hit in the right shoulder while in his backyard Monday evening by a bullet that apparently was fired into the sky. He was listed in good condition, and no arrests have been made in the case, too.

A 10-year-old boy was shot while sitting in his bedroom Sunday night. Bullets were shot through the side of his home in Englewood past 10:30 p.m., according to investigators. The boy was taken to the Chicago Comers Children’s Hospital in good condition.

A 90-year-old man was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being shot in the abdomen Saturday morning in North Lawndale.

In a word, it was mayhem. Townhall’s Julio Rosas caught some of the madness.

A crowd of people attack Chicago Police in the Loop.

A 17-year-old girl was shot in a drive-by; the shooter was on a bike.

Multiple people were shot in popular Garfield Park on Saturday night.

At least three people were shot at Chicago’s Chinatown on the South Side, one reportedly fatally.

A child was shot in the leg when a bullet came through the window of the family home.

Multiple people were shot in a mini-mass shooting in the Woodlawn area.

And on it went. Just like it does, every weekend. Yet, where was Biden? Where was Kamala Harris? Where was CNN, MSNBC, or the entire Democrat Party? Other than waxing histrionic over the Highland Park shooting, “assault rifles” and “weapons wars,” and of course demanding tougher gun-control legislation.

Never mind that the deranged, 22-year-old loser who legally purchased firearms, as reported by RedState, despite having had two previous encounters with law enforcement, attempting suicide in 2019, and a family member in 2019 saying the shooter threatened to “kill everyone.” Even worse, police removed 16 knives, a dagger, and a sword at the time, but found no probable cause to arrest.

The bottom line:

There is no organization on the planet more hypocritical than the Democrat Party.

Other than anointing itself “the party for the children,” yet vehemently championing on-demand abortion until birth, the Democrat Party’s exploitation of every mass shooting that comes down the pike as an excuse to call for stricter gun-control laws, while virtually ignoring the daily carnage in streets in virtually every major city in America, not only could not be more hypocritical; it could not be more obscene.
