'Follow-Home' Robberies So Bad in Los Angeles, Police Issue 'Cooperate and Comply' Alert

Welp, one more reason I won’t be moving to Los Angeles anytime soon. Street robberies have gotten so out of control in parts of the city that the LAPD has issued a “follow-home robberies” alert: If you’ve been out shopping, having dinner with friends, or grabbing a few beers with your buds, and a bad guy follows you home to steal your stuff? Stand aside and let him have it, Angelenos. “Cooperate and comply.”

Hey, if it works at Best Buy or Walmart, why not at your home?

As reported by KABC-TV on Wednesday, robbery victims have been followed home from Melrose Avenue, the Jewelry District, nightclubs, and high-end restaurants, in particular. According to the alert, expensive jewelry, including watches and necklaces, and purses are popular targets. And cash, of course.

As a result, said KABC, business on Melrose Avenue is down “30-something percent from 2019 numbers.”

Victims have also been targeted based on the type of vehicle they are driving. LAPD said while multiple suspects have been identified and arrested, the crime spree continues, with robberies spreading into other neighboring cities, as well. As part of the alert, the police department issued a list of recommendations for members of the community to help keep them safe (and alive) amidst the increase in crime.

The “safety tips” include:

Be aware of your surroundings for anything unusual or out of the ordinary before exiting your car, walking out of a restaurant, stores, malls, or clubs.

Be cautious of displaying high-value property in public such as purses, watches, and jewelry.

If you are driving and you believe you are being followed, dial 911. If possible, drive to the nearest police station.

If you are being robbed, do not resist the robbery suspects; cooperate and comply with their demands. Be a good witness.

After a robbery, immediately call the police department by dialing 911. Immediately write down everything you can remember about the crime, the suspects, and suspect vehicle.

Good tips, one and all. But here’s the thing. As has been the case in other major Democrat-run cities across America in the aftermath of George Flloyd, our nation’s police departments and law enforcement officers have become the bad guys — in the warped minds of the left, and the bad guys have become the victims.

LAPD Chief Michael Moore summed it up:

“Cooperate with that person. There’s nothing on your person that’s worth your life.”

Chief Moore was right, of course, but that said, why the rise in crime?

The insanity of the Defund movement has led to exactly what the sane and rational among us knew it would lead to from the outset. Police officers have become targets, and violent crime has exploded — and now “street crime” to the level in one of America’s once-proud cities that the police department is forced to warn residents not to risk their lives over a Rolex while walking out of a restaurant after an enjoyable evening.

Thank a Democrat city official, Angelenos.
