As Ronald Reagan might say to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, there you go again. On one hand, Pelosi trots out her “deep Catholic faith” whenever political expediency dictates. But other times, also for political expediency, she throws “religion” under the bus as far as she can.

During Pelosi’s weekly press conference on Thursday, she was asked whether the Constitution bans the Senate from scrutinizing the religious beliefs of Supreme Court nominees — an allusion to Amy Coney Barrett, who is expected to be introduced late Saturday afternoon by Donald Trump as his latest SCOTUS nominee.

The reporter asked:

“Clause 3, Article VI, which bans religious tests from being the qualification for office, do you think that that should apply to Supreme Court nominees as well?”

I’m no expert on the U.S. Constitution, but it seems the answer should be clearly obvious — in the Constitution. Not so fast, according to “devout” Catholic Pelosi, a staunch supporter of abortion, who once referred to late-term abortion as “sacred ground.”

As the question was asked, Pelosi started doing that weird thing she does with her mouth when she gets uncomfortable. Then her answer.

“I’m not going to get into anybody’s interpretation of one thing or another. The confirmation is the work of the Senate, and I trust the judgment of our Democrats there to honor the Constitution.”

Wait, huh? Pelosi is going “trust the judgment of ‘our’ Democrats to honor the Constitution”?

Seriously? That’s like trusting Michael Moore to pick up the Kentucky Fried Chicken for the Sunday picnic and expecting the chicken to safely arrive at said picnic. Spoiler: It ain’t gonna happen.

Question for Madam Speaker: Are “our Democrats” — including you — now “honoring the Constitution”? You know, the part that specifically lays out the procedure for filling a vacancy on the Supreme Court?

As reported by CNS News on Friday, Article VI, Clause 3 of the U.S. Constitution specifically refers to “all executive and judicial Officers” and states that “no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust”:

“The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”

Another question for Madam Speaker: What, exactly, is in Article VI, Clause 3, of the Constitution for “our Democrats” to “interpret”?

As noted by CNS News, President and Founding Father James Madison wrote that Congress is banned from considering religious tests in the confirmation process of any “necessary officers,” as quoted on the University of Chicago’s “Founders Constitution” website:

“As to the religious test, I should conceive that it can imply at most nothing more than that without that exception, a power would have been given to impose an oath involving a religious test as a qualification for office.

“The constitution of necessary offices being given to the Congress, the proper qualifications seem to be evidently involved. I think too there are several other satisfactory points of view in which the exception might be placed.” – The Papers of James Madison.

You still with me, Madam Speaker? Or are you and your Democrat colleagues busy also trying to “interpret” what Madison meant?

The bottom line:

Senate Democrats have no intention of honoring either the U.S. Constitution or the life and accomplishments of Judge Amy Coney Barrett. Just as they proved with their despicable performance during the confirmation hearing for Brett Kavanaugh — without a sniff of fact or evidence —against him, they will do their damnedest to destroy Barrett’s life. Democrats. It’s what they do.
