Could Voter ID Being on the Ballot in California Help Propel a Republican to the Governorship?

Thanks to the hard work of several Californians, primarily led by State Assemblyman Carl DeMaio, there is a highly likely chance that the voter ID initiative will be on the November ballot. On an issue that is 80/20 nationwide, if not higher, in favor of voter ID, the Democrats in Sacramento are trying to sabotage the 1.35 million people who signed the initiative, as well as the California voters from getting to decide whether voter ID should exist in the state or not.

So much for the "party of democracy." The Democrats only support democracy when it benefits them politically, but try to thwart it any time they feel threatened of potentially losing power. After 16 years of Democrat one-party rule, the dam began to break when it came to radical politicians who made communities less safe, as San Francisco recalled their district attorney, Chesa Boudin, while electing a moderate mayor in Daniel Lurie. Los Angeles voted out their DA, George Gascon, for a Republican DA, Nathan Hochman. Even in Oakland, we saw change, as their mayor, Sheng Thao, was recalled as well.

Yes, Prop 50 passed, with low voter turnout, but Prop 36, which made crime illegal again in the state, passed overwhelmingly, with over 68 percent of people voting to pass that measure, including the majority in every single county in the state voting Yes. Slowly but surely, voters are waking up in the state, but 2026 could be the turning point, as several polls show Steve Hilton and/or Riverside Sheriff Chad Bianco leading the field. With the passage of Prop 50, congressional races will be tougher for the GOP, but they will also need to shore up the Assembly and state Senate seats in order to implement the policies being proposed by Hilton or Bianco.

With this voter ID initiative likely heading to the ballot in November, it could help the GOP candidates, as Democrat politicians continue to be against showing ID before voting. Those same politicians who had endorsed the DAs who got recalled or lost were simultaneously against Prop 36, yet it was a landslide win for common sense in the state. Voter ID is key for not just the state and the voters, but for democracy itself.

Prop 50 redistricting continues to loom large on GOP incumbents and incoming candidates, and although it will be an uphill battle, especially for the congressional and Assembly candidates, the voter ID ballot initiative could help the GOP candidates who are running statewide races, such as Hilton and Bianco for governor, Michael Gates for Attorney General, Herb Morgan for State Controller, and Gloria Romero for Lieutenant Governor, as they will all vehemently be in support of the voter ID initiative throughout the campaign season.
