A few weeks back, there was quite a bit of furor over plans to add Muslim foot-washing stations to bathrooms at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). The plan was eventually scrapped after Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) intervened, saying, "These ablution facilities appear designed to single out one subset of the population for special treatment based on religion. That is illegal."
READ MORE: Islamic Foot-Washing Stations Are Being Installed at a Major American Airport
As RedState previously reported, these special "Ablution stations," also called Wudu stations, are part of an Islamic ritual that requires Muslims to wash their hands, face, arms, and feet before ritual prayer. Muslims moving through places like DFW were apparently using ordinary bathroom sinks to wash their feet.
From our reporting:
One of the justifications for installing the foot-washing stations is that travelers performing Wudu were washing their feet in ordinary bathroom sinks, which is disgusting and incredibly unhygienic. Can you imagine walking in on that? Furthermore, the feet-washers apparently were leaving the restrooms covered in water as they strutted out on their shiny, clean feet.
And there's also the wear-and-tear on the counters after untold numbers of people have put their feet up on them.
And if you thought ordinary bathroom sinks were not the optimal place for ritual foot-washing, New York City would now like a word.
A Dunkin’ employee working at the Staten Island Ferry terminal was caught on video taking things one very unhygienic step further – washing his feet not in the restaurant bathroom, but in a sink behind the counter at the coffee shop.

The video, apparently taken August 11, quickly went viral on social media, prompting lots of snarky comments:
“Would you like feet with your doughnut?” one disgusted commenter asked.
Another joked, “Is he on feet finder?”
And a third quipped, “Who needs a foot spa when you’ve got Dunkin’ Donut?”
The man's actions have reportedly also caught the attention of local health department officials.
The Health Department told The Post in a statement, “The NYC Health Department promotes the safety of food served in the city’s restaurants so New Yorkers and visitors can dine without fear of becoming ill. Restaurants are required to follow food safety requirements,” while NYC DOT said it “is reviewing and will take appropriate action.”
Dunkin’ has not publicly commented on the incident as of Sunday morning.

Back in Texas, Gov. Abbott isn't done with this issue.
On Friday, Abbott escalated matters considerably, referring both DFW and Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport to the Department of Justice for investigation over their existing ablution facilities. Said the governor, “Airports can no more offer Muslim-only bathroom spaces than they can maintain white-only bathrooms.”
