Marco Rubio's Slick New Iowa TV Ad Focuses on his Faith (Video)

The Rubio campaign has just released a new ad that is scheduled to debut in Iowa this week. As with everything else associated with the Rubio campaign, the ad is polished and does a good job of hitting the correct notes with Iowa evangelicals. Although he is a Catholic, he is clearly versant on the intersections between his Catholicism and the Evangelical beliefs of his target audience, and hits those notes pretty well. Take a look:

Our goal is eternity, the ability to live alongside our Creator for all time. To accept the free gift of salvation offered to us by Jesus Christ.

The struggle on a daily basis as a Christian is to remind ourselves of this. The purpose of our life is to cooperate with God’s plan.

To those whom much have been given, much is expected. And we will be asked to account for that. Were your treasures stored up on earth or in heaven? And to me, I try to allow that to influence me in everything that I do.

I am Marco Rubio and I approve of this message.

Simple, direct, non-political, and to the point. Rubio is likely to finish no better than third in Iowa behind Cruz and Trump, but of course not all third place finishes are created equal. Rubio can give himself a huge boost heading into New Hampshire just by finishing closer than expected to Cruz/Trump, which he will likely do if he clears 15% in the polls. Rubio’s goal at this point has to be to remain in the race until Christie, Bush, et al drop out and hope that he comes out on top of a three way contest with Trump and Cruz.

To that end, he has to more or less follow the path of at least seriously contesting all the early states, rather than focusing solely on New Hampshire, like Christie, Bush, and Kasich seem to be doing. Time will tell whether this gamble will pay off.
