Director James Gunn got everyone's attention Wednesday when he finally dropped the incredible action-packed official full trailer for DC's "Superman," which quickly became a viral sensation.
In the nearly three-minute-plus clip Gunn, director of the three "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies, shared to X the iconic Man of Steel (played by David Corenswet) showing his humanity as he defends preventing a war to intrusive reporter/girlfriend Lois Lane, played by Rachel Brosnahan, as images of war and him taking fire for doing so play.
Lane said the "Secretary of Defense was going to look into your actions."
"My actions?" Superman replied. "I stopped a war… not 'maybe' -- I did. I wasn't representing anybody except for me. And doing good. People were going to die!"
There are also shots of Superman fighting young villain Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult, aliens, oversized monsters, and more.

At the time of this publication, the film's trailer has been viewed on YouTube more than 2 million times and counting.
The movie is the highly anticipated DC Universe film that many hope will give the company a box office hit, something it hasn't seen in years.
I have to admit I loved Gunn's original "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie. I'm really looking forward to this version of "Superman," which seems nothing like the superhero films that have come out of Disney's Marvel for the last few years.
I will go back and watch "Captain America" Marvel films every day, but it's been some time since they made me want to watch one of the newer ones. I am not alone, as the company's films have struggled at the box office too, because those movies have just not been good.
Following the release of the "Superman" teaser trailer in December, RedState's Brandon Morse reported why this could make DC great again:
I'm definitely interested in this movie, which is more than I can say for every other superhero offering right now. Marvel has crashed and burned, and while they say it's due to "superhero fatigue," I'm not quite sure if that's what it is. I think what people are exhausted of is propaganda in films where it's not welcome, and that's taught us to be wary of superhero films, where this has become a serious problem.
Moreover, there have been people asking if we needed another Superman movie.
No, we don't, but it doesn't mean one isn't welcome when it comes around if it's done correctly. Stories have been told and retold for all of human existence. Retelling superhero stories is no different. What I think people are really asking is "do we need another mid, or bad, Superman movie?"
"Superman" hits theaters July 11, 2025.
