Mitt Romney to campaign with... John Kasich?

That’s what the Kasich campaign is sending out in e-mails to supporters today, and what media outlets are reporting. Before anyone gets their dander up, this is actually what’s supposed to be happening. Romney isn’t expected to endorse Kasich, but is rather joining the Please God Don’t Let Trump Win movement.

Romney is not expected to endorse the Ohio governor during the campaign swing, the source said, but it will be the first time Romney has campaigned on behalf of a Republican candidate this cycle.

It’s a significant move for the former Republican nominee, who previously recorded campaign telephone “robocalls” for Kasich as well as Marco Rubio.

Earlier this month, at a speech in Utah, Romney lambasted frontrunner Donald Trump as a “fraud” and warned of the dangers to the Republican Party if Trump were the nominee.

It makes sense for Romney to travel to Ohio to support Kasich. He’s done robo calls for Rubio and Kasich already and publicly praised Ted Cruz. He isn’t in it to endorse until there is a last man standing against Trump (which at this point is going to be Cruz). It’s all going according to the plan many speculate has been decided on.

Consolidation of the Not Trump camp is vital in order to prevent Donald Trump from becoming the face of the Republican Party, which is indeed what will happen should Trump win the nomination. Romney is following up on his speech from last month, in which he blasted Trump as a failure and a charlatan, and is doing so by helping Rubio in Florida, Kasich in Ohio, and, eventually, Ted Cruz when the time comes.

Romney, although not the ideal conservative in many aspects, recognizes the dangers the Trump candidacy represents for the Republican Party.
