Sexual Assault Allegations Lead to Suicide for one GOP Lawmaker

Just the other day I posted on Kentucky Republican State Representative Dan Johnson, who with an already controversial career was being accused of sexually assaulting a minor. Now it appears that Johnson has taken his own life.

A state representative in Kentucky shot and killed himself Wednesday evening, officials said — just days after a report emerged in which a woman said he sexually assaulted her when she was 17.

Rep. Dan Johnson, a preacher and a Republican, shot himself on a bridge in Mt. Washington, southeast of Louisville, Bullitt County Sheriff Donnie Tinnell told WDRB. His body turned up on a riverbank near the bridge and the weapon reportedly was found at the scene. He was 57.

Earlier Wednesday evening, WDRB said Johnson took to Facebook to post about the accusations leveled against him, claiming they were “false” and “only GOD knows the truth.”

Some on social media who have been following the long, bizarre story of the preacher turned politician are saying that this was bound to happen. Others are blaming left-wing and/or media conspiracies.

Johnson left a rambling suicide note on Facebook, in which he invoked Donald Trump’s favorite two words and said AMERICA will not survive this type of judge and jury fake news.”

A strange wrinkle in the note is Johnson claiming to have suffered 16 years of post-traumatic stress disorder since 9/11. Johnson apparently had claimed that he was there during the terrorist attack and delivered “last rites” to victims in a morgue he had personally set up.

It seems that Johnson may have had a habit of making up grandiose stories about his life in which he performed miracles and was a big player in pivotal historical events. He was apparently a very troubled man who managed to surround himself with people who bought into his delusions. That is often a recipe for disaster.

Perhaps he saw the impending scrutiny about sexual assault as the thread that would unravel all of his fictions and it drove him to suicide.
