Neil Young Tells Spotify It’s Either Him or Joe Rogan

In a sign of unshakable convictions and immovable adherence to principles … or not, Neil Young has deleted an open letter posted Monday to his website demanding his assorted representatives on his behalf demand Spotify remove his music from its streaming service. The given reason? Joe Rogan.

“I am doing this because Spotify is spreading fake information about vaccines – potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them,” he wrote. “Please act on this immediately today and keep me informed of the time schedule.”

“I want you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform,” he continued. “They can have [Joe] Rogan or Young. Not both.”

For the record, Young’s music is still on Spotify.

Accusing Rogan of being podcasting’s Dr. Death is nothing new. Fellow RedState writers have already covered the recent “270 doctors” story that falls apart under even cursory scrutiny. Last year, Rogan shredded CNN for spreading fake news regarding his physician-prescribed COVID treatment. Despite media’s best efforts to whip up anti-Rogan hysteria, he remains impossible to cancel.

Young, however, need not worry about being canceled as there is presently nothing to cancel. His latest album Barn, released in December, was on the album charts for a whopping two weeks, never going higher than #66. If he wants a reason to pull his music off of Spotify, a streaming service he despises, a far better reason would be the pathetic pittance it pays while Young is handsomely covering the rent with listeners paying him directly to stream his music.

Of course one would never be so crass as to suggest Young might be doing all this as a publicity ploy. Perish the thought! Why, next you’ll be dropping hints that Blur and Gorillaz ringmaster Damon Albarn popped off about believing Taylor Swift does not write her own songs in a blatant attempt to get some attention …
