Delusional New York Times Staffers Complain That Paper Is Not Anti-Trump Enough

The New York Times’ newsroom confronted some serious concerns about its coverage of former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party during an October 24 meeting.

The source of the contention? Staffers believe the newspaper is not adequately biased against Trump. Those involved in the meeting gave the same type of criticism that has been leveled against other outlets like The Washington Post, which recently decided not to endorse a presidential candidate.

During the confab, journalists reportedly expressed frustration that the paper’s reporting on the GOP and Trump was not sufficiently critical, as reported by Semafor. They claimed the outlet was “sanewashing” Trump’s actions, attempting to make his supposedly extreme behavior seem normal.

"We got a lot of questions from folks worrying about what is in effect the 'sanewashing' of him,” said Astead Herndon, a national reporter.

Herndon and Jodi Kantor, along with other staffers, questioned whether the newspaper deliberately waited until the final weeks of the campaign to intensify its criticism of the former president. “It does seem like there’s been a more direct tone against Trump in the last couple months,” said one of their colleagues.

Executive Editor Joe Kahn tried to assuage their concerns, pointing to The Times’ supposed commitment to independent, objective journalism. “This is not about answering a critique on the left,” he said, also noting that the newspaper “stepped up our coverage politically…as we get into the final weeks of the campaign.”

The staffers also complained that the newspaper had not done enough to equate issues with Trump’s age with President Joe Biden’s apparent cognitive issues.

Times leadership similarly addressed another criticism that has gained steam within the online left: that the paper unfairly focused tremendously on Biden’s age and mental decline in the months after his disastrous presidential debate performance, while neglecting his opponent’s cognitive shortcomings.

[Managing Editor Carolyn] Ryan argued the recent focus on Trump’s age was simply a reflection of how the dynamics of the presidential race had changed: Trump is a greater contrast with Harris, who is nearly two decades younger.

“We did cover Trump’s age and behavior in relation to Biden, and he was the beneficiary in some ways of that natural comparison to Biden,” Ryan said of Trump. “But I do think we have very sharply told people what we are observing over time, and we have said it admirably and directly, and that’s part of the reason these stories are landing.”

At this point, one has to wonder whether these staffers actually read the publication that employs them or whether they have been taking advantage of the Biden-Harris administration’s crack pipe program.

The New York Times has been about as far from objective as Harris is from forming coherent thoughts during interviews when it comes to how it has covered the former president and the GOP. The outlet has published numerous articles comparing Trump to Adolf Hitler.

Just recently, the newspaper’s editorial board published an op-ed warning voters against voting for the Orange Man What Is Bad™. Here it is in its entirety:

You already know Donald Trump. He is unfit to lead. Watch him. Listen to those who know him best. He tried to subvert an election and remains a threat to democracy. He helped overturn Roe, with terrible consequences. Mr. Trump’s corruption and lawlessness go beyond elections: It’s his whole ethos. He lies without limit. If he’s re-elected, the G.O.P. won’t restrain him. Mr. Trump will use the government to go after opponents. He will pursue a cruel policy of mass deportations. He will wreak havoc on the poor, the middle class and employers. Another Trump term will damage the climate, shatter alliances and strengthen autocrats. Americans should demand better. Vote.

In September, the outlet published a compilation of negative quotes from people who had been in Trump’s orbit.

It featured Trump’s former Chief of Staff John Kelly, who said the former president is “A person who admires autocrats and murderous dictators.”

It highlighted a comment from former White House Director of Strategic Communication Alyssa Farah Griffin, who said Trump is “wholly unfit to be in office.”

The piece even included a quote from disgraced former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, who called the former president a “cheat, a liar, a fraud, a bully.”

The notion that the New York Times has not been sufficiently biased against Trump is so absurd that one might be tempted to think it is satire. The truth is that The Times, like most other establishment media outlets, is bent on promoting a political agenda that favors Democrats. It would be difficult for it to be even more biased than it already is.
