Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently reaffirmed his radical pro-abortion position. During a podcast interview, he asserted that he supports abortion up to the point of birth, an opinion even many far-leftist Democrats have shied away from.
Kennedy made his comments during an appearance on “The Sage Steele Show." The host asked about the Supreme Court’s ruling overturning Roe v. Wade. The decision placed responsibility for abortion policy back on the states instead of the federal government.
During the interview, he argued that when it comes to decisions on abortion, “we should leave it to the women,” and that “We shouldn’t have government involved.”
Steele pressed the issue, asking whether he supports full-term abortions. Kennedy answered in the affirmative, saying “even if it’s full term.” He articulated a similar position in 2023:.
In August, Kennedy stated that he believes abortion should be left up to the mother “during the first three months of life,” adding that the state has a duty to protect the child “once a child is viable outside the womb.” Kennedy’s campaign then issued a statement claiming that he misunderstood the question asked to him by a reporter, and that his view on abortion is “always the woman’s right to choose.”
Abortion is expected to be a significant issue in the upcoming presidential election. Former President Donald Trump recently argued that the abortion issue should be left up to the states and expressed opposition to Congress passing a law enshrining restrictions on the procedure. This garnered criticism from many on the right.
On the other hand, Democrats have walked a careful line when discussing abortion. When many Democratic politicians have been asked if they support full-term abortion, they have dodged the question. During an interview in February, President Joe Biden tripped all over himself when addressing criticism of his abortion stance.
“By the way, I love how Trump is now saying ‘Biden's for abortion on demand.’ Not true. That's not what Roe v Wade said. They said there are three trimesters and how it worked.”

Other Democrats have resorted to simply lying about their positions on abortion, as covered by RedState’s Brad Slager. They have claimed that they do not support abortion up to the point of birth, and pretended that this assertion is something Republicans just made up. However, their actions prove otherwise.
Seven states and the District of Columbia have no-limit laws passed on the issue of abortion. California, Colorado, New Mexico, and others have signed laws making late-term abortions legal. In describing her state’s legislation, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham was on with Margaret Brennan this past April, and when asked pointedly about what the law entailed, she did not blink about this reality.
MARGARET BRENNAN: What so, nail down for me then how do you define because up till now my understanding is there wasn't a limit on when in pregnancy, a woman could receive an abortion? Have you set any limit on that?
GOV. LUJAN GRISHAM: There are no limits. So for us-
MARGARET BRENNAN: That's very controversial.
GOV. LUJAN GRISHAM: It can be I mean, look, it's the 1% of all abortions. And that's still a sizable number of abortions worldwide.
Abortion is already a contentious issue. Most Americans fall somewhere between allowing the procedure up to the point of birth and pushing for a national ban. Kennedy’s position isn’t likely to help his campaign, which is already a longshot endeavor to begin with.
