The Right Needs an Answer for George Soros' Chessboard Moves

On the chessboard of American politics, billionaire progressive financier George Soros has been making some significant moves in recent years. Through his Open Society Foundation, he has been a prominent funder of far left-wing causes for decades.

Now, Soros has been taking more actions that are too significant to ignore – especially for the right. Indeed, as the billionaire continues ramping up efforts to dominate some of the more important areas of government and society, the right has been placed in a conundrum: How to counteract the influence of one of the most powerful players in progressive politics.

RedState’s Bob Hoge recently reported on Soros’ bid to take over Audacy, the nation’s second-largest chain of broadcast radio stations.

He's pumped in over $400 million to the effort:

George Soros is poised to take a massive stake in the nation’s second-largest radio company, which owns more than 220 stations nationwide, according to court filings and sources close to the situation.

The left-leaning billionaire’s Soros Fund Management has bought up $400 million of debt in Audacy — the No. 2 US radio broadcaster behind iHeartMedia with stations including New York’s WFAN and 1010 WINS, as well as Los Angeles-based KROQ, according to bankruptcy filings.

One insider close to the situation, noting that he was a Republican, said he believed it was possible Soros was buying the stake to exert influence on public opinion in the months leading up to the 2024 presidential election.

“This is scary,” the source said.

Needless to say, if Soros is taking over Audacy, it means he and his comrades will have control over one of the nation’s biggest radio companies, which would further expand his ability to promote progressivism to the masses.

Over recent years, Soros has also been a major contributor to the effort to elect far-left district attorneys in major cities across the country. This has already reaped horrible consequences for the residents of these cities, who have been suffering under soft-on-crime policies that do more to protect violent criminals than the people they victimize.

Billionaire activist George Soros wrote an editorial in the Wall Street Journal Sunday announcing his intention to continue dropping tens of millions of dollars in donations to get woke, “progressive” district attorneys elected in cities across the nation. He laughably claimed that such prosecutors are making the criminal justice system “more effective and just,” despite much evidence to the contrary, including skyrocketing crime and countless shattered lives. He writes:

Americans desperately need a more thoughtful discussion about our response to crime. People have had enough of the demagoguery and divisive partisan attacks that dominate the debate and obscure the issues.

The ninety-one-year-old, Hungarian-born financier continues, explaining that in his view the American justice system is unfair:

Yet our system is rife with injustices that make us all less safe. The idea that we need to choose between justice and safety is false. They reinforce each other: If people trust the justice system, it will work. And if the system works, public safety will improve. (Emphasis mine.)

This move reflects Soros’ understanding that the focus on local politics is paramount as it is the area in which the progressive movement can affect the most change. Indeed, it was also revealed in January that he is currently engaged in a long-term effort to turn the state of Texas from red to blue, a feat that Democrats have struggled to accomplish.

As part of an overall effort to turn Texas from a Republican stronghold into a blue state, billionaire progressive financier George Soros is pouring oodles of cash into the state’s races to bolster support for far-leftist candidates.

The idea is to transform Texas into a Democratic playground, and the strategy could work if the state Republican Party doesn’t find an answer to this political offensive.

George Soros is pouring money into local Democratic parties in Texas in a ploy to help Democrats turn the state blue, according to the Texas Tribune.

Soros, working with the Texas Majority PAC, donated six-figure sums to the Democratic parties of Hidalgo, Cameron and Dallas counties, all of which are plurality or majority Hispanic, the Texas Tribune reported. Soros’ spending comes as Democrats have lost ground nationally and in Texas with Latino voters.

Hidalgo and Cameron counties were among the places where Republicans gained the most ground between the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections. Hidalgo County moved 24 points to the right between the two elections, and Cameron County shifted toward Republicans by 20 points, according to The New York Times.

These examples represent only a smattering of the moves Soros is making to bring about a takeover of American politics – and so far, he has been quite successful. This raises an important question: What is the right going to do about it?

Currently, there does not seem to be a wealthy and powerful figure on the right who does what Soros does for the left. But this does not mean that his efforts are undefeatable. Fortunately, conservatives and libertarians still have a strong presence on radio and digital media, an area that progressives have not been able to stop despite their attempts at censorship and other attacks. When it comes to media, the right has an infrastructure with which to push back against Soros’ influence efforts.

But Soros’ focus on local politics should be concerning for the right. We can already see the impact that the billionaire’s funding has had on local communities because of the leftist district attorneys who were elected with his assistance. What happens when he gets more aggressive in expanding these efforts to mayors, city council members, and other local offices?

This is yet another reason why folks on the right should be shoring up power in local communities. Soros is not playing as hard at the federal level. But by going local, progressives can take over cities and towns. From there, they can bubble this up to the state and, finally, the federal level. As I indicated earlier, this is not a short-term endeavor; it is a long-term enterprise.

The right needs to throw as much energy behind countering this initiative as possible. Getting the right people in at the local level can prevent the Marxist effort from expanding to the point that it cannot be rolled back. For now, the chessboard is set, and Soros is already making his moves. Is the right ready for this battle?
