With all the focus on Chinese balloons and First Lady Jill Biden making out with Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband at the State of the Union address, there are other important problems still plaguing the country. The migrant crisis, which began shortly after President Joe Biden took office, is still an issue, with migrants continuing to swarm the southern border seeking to enter the country legally and illegally.
The problem has persisted as the White House and Democrats in Congress turn a blind eye to the matter, hoping that the American people will somehow forget what is happening at the border. Indeed, now they are taking actions that will only make it easier for these individuals to gain entry to the United States in violation of immigration laws.
Speaking of balloons, the Biden administration is reportedly decreasing the number of aerostats used to monitor the situation at the southern border. Fox News reported:
The Biden administration is significantly reducing the number of aerostats being used to monitor the overwhelmed southern border, with multiple sources telling Fox News that it is due to a lack of funding — with a majority already being taken out of service.
Last year there were 12 aerostats, nicknamed “Eyes in the Sky” by Customs and Border Protection (CBP), along the southern border. CBP sources tell Fox that only four remain now, all in the Rio Grande Valley Sector.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) uses balloons to keep an eye on the southern border and to identify people trying to sneak into the country illegally. Now, the agency will have a harder time keeping track of the situation – which is likely why the White House is taking this action.
“The U.S. Border Patrol began reducing the number of Tactical Aerostats it deploys along the southwest border on January 1, 2023,” A CBP spokesperson told Fox News. “Although the Border Patrol’s number of aerostats will be reduced, the Border Patrol will continue to use aerostats throughout FY 2023.”
The spokesperson also explained that the agency would employ other measures and “explore new technology to increase surveillance of the border region.”
The migrant crisis has continued to worsen over the past two years and some have decided to do something about it since Biden can’t be bothered. Various civilian militia groups have been patrolling the southern border to aid CBP in apprehending people trying to get into the country illegally, hearkening back to the days of the Minuteman Project.
You might be shocked to find out Democratic lawmakers are not happy about the development. In fact, three Democratic senators penned a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland demanding that he have the Justice Department harass investigate these individuals who have the unmitigated gall to help keep our nation secure.
“For years, unlawful paramilitary organizations have engaged in unofficial border missions — reminiscent of Ku Klux Klan border patrols — intended to illegally detain and harass immigrants. These activities undermine legitimate government authority and threaten public safety,” said the letter, which was written by Sens. Ed Markey (MA), Elizabeth Warren (MA), and Corey Booker (NJ).
“Recently, many paramilitary groups have stepped up their efforts, creating an escalating crisis that must be a priority for both the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of Justice,” the letter added.
The groups in question are organizations like Veterans on Patrol (VOP) and Patriots for America (PFA).
Imagine exploiting the KKK, who terrorized and murdered scores of black Americans, to score some cheap political points against some regular folks who are monitoring the southern border. Shows how little these Democrats care about the black people they claim to champion, doesn’t it?
PFA leader Sam Hall balked at the suggestion that his group is motivated by racism. “It’s slanderous…I don’t know if there is going to be legal that can be taken there or not,” he told Townhall. “We got plenty of media out there that have our mission, our message, and what we do, but it seems like none of these so-called journalists decided to include any of that in their [letter] stories.”
Hall also explained that people in his group are not allowed to physically prevent illegals from entering the country, but they can assist law enforcement in apprehending them. He also recalled how members of the group provided food and water to some of these individuals crossing the border. In fact, families trying to get into the country are typically happy to run into members of this group because they want to turn themselves in and go through the asylum process.
“[T]he gotaways, the people who don’t want to be caught, the drug smugglers, the human traffickers, they avoid us like the plague. Those are the ones we’re focused on…those are ones that are a lot more sneaky in what they do,” Hall said.
Unfortunately, groups like VOP and PFA, along with CBP, are the only ones interested in curbing illegal immigration. President Biden and his merry band of Democrats in Congress seem hellbent on making sure as many of these individuals make it into the country as possible. If the White House truly wished to deal with the migrant crisis, it would find the funding necessary to keep our eyes in the sky. They would not have rescinded most of former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. Their inaction tells us all we need to know about how they feel about the migrant crisis, doesn’t it?
