Democrats’ House Jan. 6 Committee Enlists Media BigWig to Help Sensationalize Upcoming Hearings

In yet another effort to show the world how desperate they are, the Democratic House Select Committee on the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol building is relying on a former network news executive to help make the upcoming hearings on the incident as dramatic as possible. They seem to believe a bit of production value and pizazz can rejuvenate the riot into something that could be used as a political weapon to minimize the damage they will receive in November’s congressional elections

Axios reported that “James Goldston — former president of ABC News, and a documentary storyteller who ran ‘Good Morning America’ and ‘Nightline’ — has joined the committee as an unannounced adviser.”

A source told the news outlet that Goldston “is busily producing Thursday’s 8 p.m. ET hearing as if it were a blockbuster investigative special” and that he “plans to make it raw enough so that skeptical journalists will find the material fresh, and chew over the disclosures in future coverage.”

It’s a bit amusing that Axios seems to believe there are “skeptical” media activists to persuade on this matter. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that most members of the activist media are salivating at the possibility of using the hearings to help their comrades in the Democratic Party.

Goldston’s role will be, in part, to “draw the eyeballs of Americans who haven’t followed the ins and outs of the Capitol riot probe” according to the report. The production will use “a mix of live witnesses and pre-produced video,” “official White House photographs from Jan. 6, 2021, that have never been seen publicly,” and clips of many of the committee’s depositions.

In other words, Democrats are pulling out all the stops to make this production as successful as possible.

Thursday’s hearings will be the first in a series of productions weaponizing the riot against Republicans in the leadup to November’s elections. While the first will be shown at night, the rest will be broadcast during the day.

The article acknowledges that Republicans “will argue that the 1/6 committee — which consists of seven Democrats plus Republicans Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois — is just out to get former President Trump.”

Cable news outlets have already booked high-profile Republican members of Congress for interviews after the first hearing.

However, despite the hype Democrats are putting into this production, it will make about as many ripples as a grain of sand tossed into the Atlantic ocean. As many have already pointed out, when Americans are sitting at the breakfast table, they are not complaining about Jan. 6. They are focused on gas prices, inflation, education, healthcare, and other issues that are actually impacting people’s lives.

The hearings are nothing more than a last-ditch effort for Democrats to win some political points before receiving the shellacking that is coming during the midterm elections. They still have found nothing to run on, and the myriad of failures of the Biden administration has turned the public away from them. Unfortunately for them, it does not appear they will find a way to dig themselves out of this hole.
