Can we have more productivity and less political theater, please? It seems that some Republican lawmakers are more concerned with putting on a show than actually pushing conservative policy.

House Republicans on Friday filed articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. The filing was introduced by Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and cites the botched Afghanistan withdrawal was among several impeachment resolutions arguing for the removal of Biden and Harris from office.

Boebert was joined by Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Jeff Duncan (R-SC), Ralph Norman (R-SC), Louie Gohmert (R-TX), and Jody Hice (R-GA). In the filing, she accuses the president and vice president of aiding America’s enemies by leaving weapons and military equipment in Afghanistan and colluding with the Taliban.

In a statement released to the media, Boebert argued “Vice President Harris is complicit in all of this.” She continued:

His (Biden’s) indecision, incompetence, and mental failings cost American lives, and Kamala had a duty to step up and remove Biden from office.

The representative claimed the president colluded and conspired with former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to paint a more favorable picture of the worsening situation with the Taliban taking over the country amid the withdrawal. She also brought up the airstrike intended to kill terrorists, but actually killed 10 civilians, including seven children.

Boebert is not the first GOP lawmaker to introduce articles of impeachment. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) introduced a filing the day after President Biden took office. Other representatives have made similar filings.

None of these impeachment filings will see the light of day. Even if the effort to remove Biden and Harris would crash and burn when the Republicans retake the House and Senate. This impeachment effort is an exercise in futility. It is nothing more than political theater designed to give the appearance that Republicans in Congress are fighting the left.

Meanwhile, Democrats are trying to ram through a $1.2 trillion “hard infrastructure” bill that spends less than 10% on roads and bridges. Half of House Republican lawmakers voted for a bill that includes red flag laws. The Democrats are about to reintroduce legislation that would prohibit states from passing legislation limiting abortion.

There is no valid reason to be tilting at windmills just to put on a show. There is no way these articles of impeachment will move the needle forward.

Sure, political theater can be fun. Rep. Greene’s shouting match with Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) was probably entertaining. But none of this actually contributes to the fight for liberty. Conservatives need people in office who actually desire to do something productive. If we want to see a performance, we can go to the movies or turn on Netflix.
