5 Reasons Why the Democrats Will Get Shellacked in the 2022 Midterms

If anyone on the left thinks the Democrats are in a favorable position for the upcoming 2022 midterm elections, they should consider at least a few rounds of therapy. Every day it seems that their prospects for victory are becoming more precarious.

For starters, even Axios acknowledged that certain issues “are positioning Republicans for even bigger midterm gains than they’d imagined just months ago.” Their report while President Joe Biden has emphasized the importance of bipartisanship, “strident Democrats are pushing for hard-left positions” to be shoved through Congress while they still have control. Indeed, this is the impetus behind the progressives’ push to eliminate the filibuster.

Indeed, the far-left faction of the party and their obsession with wokeism is one of the factors that will play in the Democrats’ defeat during the midterms. Their outspoken minority in the socialist wing is not doing the overall party any favors. The furor over Rep. Cori Bush’s comments about defunding the police even though she uses private security to protect her is one of many examples demonstrating how her ilk is ruining their chances for victory.

This reality is not lost on members of the moderate establishment who feuded with the hard left at the beginning of the year. These individuals rightly recognized that the Democrats’ losses in the House and tepid performance in the Senate were largely the result of the focus on wokeism and initiatives that are not popular with the American public. The far left’s push to include elements of Critical Race Theory and other forms of woke theology in America’s classroom is an example showing they are out of touch with the American public.

Next, we have the economy. Some on the left might be tempted to think that the Democrats will get credit for the rebounding economy. This is possible, but not likely. Anyone with a modicum of common sense knows that states reopening their businesses is the primary factor in the economy’s recovery from the devastation it experienced last year when states were imposing lockdown orders.

Also, inflation is increasingly becoming an issue. Americans are paying more for the products they need to live their lives according to National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Mike Berg. Axios noted that his remarks “are backed up by internal surveys showing how fearful Americans are of the rising costs of health care and daily goods.”

Moreover, the jobless numbers have been in decline, but only because several states decided to stop receiving enhanced federal unemployment benefits. Turns out that not paying people to stay home makes them want to go back to work. The Democrats were on the wrong side of this issue, and American voters know it.

Of course, we would be remiss to overlook the severity of Biden’s migrant crisis which the activist media has desperately tried to spin or downplay. However, the truth is still coming out about the flood of migrants traveling to the southern border. The number of individuals attempting to gain entry into the U.S. – legally and illegally – is still trending upward.

Last week, it was revealed that the number of encounters between Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and illegal aliens trying to get into the United States in July is expected to be even higher than it was in March and June. Vice President Kamala Harris, who was tapped as border czar earlier this year, has come off as woefully inept and unable to adequately address the problem. This, combined with the issue of unaccompanied minors will likely be on voters’ minds in 2022.

Crime is also an issue that will likely turn voters against the Democrats. A study conducted by the Council on Criminal Justice found that the crime rate has been rising like crazy over the past six months. From the report:

Violent crime, particularly homicide, is rising rapidly in cities across the nation. Recent reports from the Council find a 30% surge in murders in 2020 compared to the previous year, and a 16% increase for the first half of 2021. Meanwhile, property and drug crimes declined during these same periods.

Instead of taking an appropriate response to skyrocketing crime rates, prominent Democrats did the dumbest thing possible: They pushed for defunding the police. Indeed, after the murder of George Floyd, they exploited his death to demand that police budgets be cut in ways that make it more difficult for law enforcement to do its job.

To be fair, the moderate faction was against this initiative as I stated previously. Nevertheless, they were not able to find a way to counter the narrative that their socialist wing was promoting. Now, people are increasingly falling victim to homicides due in large part to the fact that the hard left has pushed rhetoric and policies that resulted in fewer police officers on the street. Even worse for the Democrats is that the American public overwhelmingly rejects the idea that defunding the police is an adequate solution.

The vaccine mandate is also an issue. The Biden administration’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccine rollout has been mostly positive, but even these numbers are declining amid the introduction of the Delta variant and the Democrats’ calling for vaccine mandates, which are also unpopular with Americans on both the left and the right.

Nevertheless, Democrats are still pushing for mandatory vaccines. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio recently instituted such a measure. Residents of the city are not allowed to visit restaurants and other indoor businesses without showing proof of vaccination. So far, he is the only Democratic official to enact such a measure, but with the Biden administration and Dr. Anthony Fauci publicly supporting local mandates, it is not a stretch to imagine that others will follow.

What this all boils down to is the fact that the Democratic Party is not in line with the rest of America. To put it simply, while some of their ideas are popular, most of them are just not what the people want. Moreover, the fixation on wokeism is off-putting. Their usual tactic of calling everyone racist is not nearly as potent as it has been in days past. It is why they are hyper-focusing on the Jan. 6 riot as a means of distracting from their failures.

Unless the Democrats pull off an unexpectedly huge victory or the Republicans do something astonishingly stupid, it is difficult to see a path to victory for the left in the midterms. At this point, the GOP is sitting in a pretty good position. Let’s just hope they don’t foul it up.
