It would be a grievous error to assume that President Joe Biden and his merry band of Democratic lawmakers only wish to tamper with your text messages over supposed COVID-19 “misinformation.” Indeed, the very idea that they would make such a suggestion should send a chill down the spine of any freedom-loving American regardless of political affiliation.
RedState’s Kira Davis recently wrote a piece outlining the Biden administration’s plan to “activate left-wing groups and activists to put pressure on phone carriers to censor SMS text messages that may contain ‘misinformation’ about COVID, the vaccines, and heaven knows what else they may consider to be wrong information.”
Politico reported:
Biden allied groups, including the Democratic National Committee, are also planning to engage fact-checkers more aggressively and work with SMS carriers to dispel misinformation about vaccines that is sent over social media and text messages.
The report comes just after White House press secretary Jen Psaki stated that door-to-door visits would be conducted to convince more Americans to get vaccinated. Unfortunately, it appears that some are using George Orwell’s “1984” as an instruction manual rather than a cautionary tale.
Reuters reported in 2018 that the Federal Communications Commission voted to clarify that wireless carriers have the right to block unwanted text messages. Ironically enough, Democrats expressed concerns that this decision could censor messages that consumers send. Apparently, it only took three years and a pandemic to get them to change their mind.
Democrats wish to compel wireless carriers to censor people’s conversations about the COVID-19 outbreak and the vaccine, ostensibly to prevent people from being deceived about the issue. Of course, to them, any opinion that differs from their own automatically constitutes deception, so if the Democrats get their way, people will not even be allowed to express skepticism about the vaccine when conversing with friends and family. This is no different from what Big Tech companies are doing when they crack down on dissenting opinions on the matter.
But they won’t stop there, folks.
One only has to look at Big Tech censorship, in general, to see where the hard left would like to take this. If the Democrats succeed in pressuring these companies to censor their customer’s text messages on the COVID-19 vaccine under the guise of saving lives, it is not difficult to imagine where they will go next, is it?
Companies like Facebook, Twitter, Google, YouTube, and others have already demonstrated that they have no qualms with censoring, shadowbanning, and removing accounts that express views that violate the precepts of woke orthodoxy. In addition, these companies routinely throttle content that disagrees with so-called progressive perspectives.
So what will these people do once they know they can mess with your text messages? What if you’re having a conversation with a family member, and you happen to express your opinion that former President Donald Trump did not incite the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol building? Think of what they might do if you express views about transgenderism that don’t jibe with what the Democrats are telling the American public?
A virtual smorgasbord of censorious scenarios could materialize if these companies bow to pressure from the left. To make matters worse, we can’t put it past these companies to bend the knee. After all, we have seen plenty of other businesses kowtow to left-wing campaigns. In several instances, these organizations have been easily coerced.
America is facing a myriad of problems at the moment – many of which are flying under the radar as debates over Critical Race Theory (CRT), and other racial issues take center stage. While these issues are worth debating, it would be folly not to consider the possibility that they are distracting us from what the government is up to.
Moreover, if Politico reported on this instance of Democrats seeking to overstep their bounds, what else is going on that has not been publicized? Freedom-loving Americans cannot afford to lose sight of a reality of which we are already aware: Government always tries to expand itself. While the DNC is attempting to use persuasion to get wireless carriers to do their bidding at the moment, how much longer will it be before they attempt to pass legislation allowing the state to regulate text messages?
This might sound like standard tinfoil hat fare. But at the same time, we would be remiss to turn a blind eye. Indeed, we must make sure we are not being distracted by other issues, even if they are also important. A failure on the part of conservatives to remain vigilant will allow the hard left to covertly impose their agenda on the rest of the nation.
