It seems that New York’s most prestigious schools can’t seem to get the message about their fixation with woke theology. After multiple scandals involving the injection of far-left ideas into the classroom, another school is once again the source of controversy.
A group of parents whose children attend Spence School in Manhattan has rebuffed an apology from Principal Bodie Brizendine over a questionable video shown to eighth-grade students. The video showed a comedian mocking white people, along with other offensive content. (See: A Mom Revolts After Elite School Shows Video That ‘Tarred and Feathered’ White Women)
After a furor erupted over the video being shown to the students, Brizendine issued an apology over email. The New York Post reported that the administration said it is “never acceptable to ridicule anyone at any time” and that the video was “not part of the Spence curriculum.” She also stated that the school was “sorry for any harm this has caused to anyone in [its] community.”
The parents weren’t having any of it.
One parent sent the principal a letter indicating that she was “upset” after hearing about the playing of the video, but that Brizendine’s email “really pushed me over the edge.”
The hullabaloo started when a teacher showed her class an episode of comedian Ziwe Fumudoh’s show in which she asks author Fran Lebowitz:
What percentage of white women do you hate? And there is a right answer.
In the original article, the Post reported:
Fumudoh also had a sit-down with four white women named Karen, a term she said has come to be synonymous with “obnoxious, angry and entitled, often racist, white women.’’
In addition, the footage included Fumudoh reading obscene lyrics of the rap song “WAP,’’ a k a “Wet Ass P—y,” by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion to women’s rights leader Gloria Steinem — and asking if she felt “empowered’’ by them.
Another parent stated that the Brizendine was not addressing the concerns of the parents. She, and many other parents, felt the apology was weak and only intended to shut them up.
In other letters, parents pointed out that academics are no longer a “priority” and that the principal had lost their trust and support. However, the Spence School is not the only learning institution in New York that is experiencing pushback to its focus on wokeism.
Parents at the Dalton School, another exclusive institution, became incensed when they found out an educator treated its high school students to a seminar on “pornography literacy” without the knowledge or consent of the parents. The same “educator” who taught the seminar also led a class in which she taught elementary school children about masturbation and other sexually inappropriate lessons.
Before the hubbub over Critical Race Theory (CRT) began garnering national attention, parents at schools in New York and elsewhere were already battling school administrators over the fixation on wokeism. It’s encouraging to see that more parents are pushing back. But the question remains – how much of this is going on without parents’ knowledge?
It’s yet another reason why parents need to be vigilant in paying attention to the curriculum that is being taught to their children. The hard left relies on the ignorance of parents to push their indoctrination on their students.
