As the mayhem at the Capitol continued, many on social media were weighing with their hot takes and partisan meanderings. However, one individual took this opportunity to push further towards the type of authoritarian paradise he would like to make a reality.
Erick Erickson, an alleged conservative blogger and radio host, took to Twitter to give his hot take and let his inner authoritarian out. “Shoot the protestors. Waive the rules, impeach. Waive the rules, convict. Waive the rules, deny the ability to run for election again,” he tweeted. Twitter removed the tweet since it violated its terms and conditions.
Later, he attempted to clarify his position, but still couldn’t shed the statism. He wrote, “I was saying the police should shoot the violent protestors this past summer. I’m saying the same thing now. Those of you upset with me now were fine with me then. Peacefully protest, but if you get shot storming the Capitol I won’t shed a tear.”

Apparently, Erickson doesn’t realize that statist violence doesn’t somehow become less statist when it’s done to the left. While many Twitter users pilloried him for his asinine comments, there were still several who agreed.
Unfortunately, Erickson got his wish. A 35-year-old woman was shot in the neck by Capitol police. She died hours later after being taken to the hospital.
Many high-profile conservatives condemned the violence that took place at the Capitol, without advocating for statist violence. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) posted a tweet denouncing the rioting.
“Violence is always unacceptable. Even when passions run high. Anyone engaged in violence—especially against law enforcement—should be fully prosecuted. God bless the Capitol Police and the honorable men & women of law enforcement who show great courage keeping all of us safe,” he tweeted.

The Trump supporters who participated in the rioting certainly did not deserve to be shot. However, their actions will do far more harm than good. While they may have felt like they were performing a virtuous act, they only made the situation worse.
We know how the activist media is going to spin this. In fact, they’ve already started the spin cycle. While most know that they are raving hypocrites pretending to all of a sudden be concerned about riots, these folks gave them plenty of ammo to use against the rest of us. Indeed, their actions helped promote the leftist agenda; they did nothing to push conservatism.
However, there is one thing going in our favor: Our leaders and politicians collectively denounced the violence. The same cannot be said for the Democrats who ignored or defended the chaos caused by Antifa over the Summer. The difference is clear, isn’t it?

Editor’s Note: A previous version of this article identified the woman shot as a 16-year-old girl, as was initially reported by some outlets. The article has been updated to reflect her correct age.
