Prepare for one of the most shocking stories you will hear this week. Steve Schmidt, failed GOP strategist and founding member of the Lincoln Project recently announced that he was switching his party registration to the Democratic Party.
Only days after Schmidt made a fool of himself by simping for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, he declared that he was switching sides. The Hill reported that “Schmidt made the announcement during an episode of the “Battleground” podcast published on Monday, as he and co-host David Plouffe were discussing the Republican house members and state attorneys general that backed Texas’ now ill-fated election lawsuit before the Supreme Court.”
“I spent 29 years as a Republican, I’ve spent two and a half as an independent, and later this afternoon I will register as a member of the Democratic Party,” he said. “Because in America today, it’s only the Democratic Party—which is the oldest political party in the world—that stands for the ideas and ideals of American liberty.”
The former Republican strategist previously worked on the late Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign in 2008 and former President George W. Bush’s campaign in 2004. He renounced the GOP in 2018 after it was clear that his neocon kind was no longer welcome in the party and registered as an independent.
Since then, Schmidt has been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump and with his comrade Rick Wilson, another failed GOP strategist and Confederate flag enthusiast, he founded The Lincoln Project, a PAC full of whiny, self-righteous neocons who are bitter over their loss of relevancy after Trump knocked them from their pretentious perches in 2016.
Schmidt stated that he would no longer countenance the parts of the Republican Party that he believes have become “the mainstream part of [the] coalition,” referring to white nationalists and the usual suspects that his fellow leftists pretend to care about.
“I think we win—and by we, I mean America—or they win,” he bloviated. “And I think the place where that fight will take place from is in the Democratic Party.”
Plouffe, who served as a senior adviser in the Obama administration gushed over Schmidt’s announcement. “Well, we’re glad to have you, welcome brother,” he said.
The Hill posted their article about Schmidt’s conversion on Twitter, and many of the reactions were priceless. RedState’s Managing Editor Streiff, in his usual acerbic style, supported Schmidt’s decision:
Great. Now he can bring that great talent for losing, whining, grifting, and sabotaging others to the democrats. Wonder if Rick Wilson will give him joint custody of the Confederate flag cooler?

But he wasn’t the only one to weigh in. Here are some other responses:

Maybe now the media can stop pretending that the Lincoln Project is in any way a Republican organization https://t.co/dqOQDkL7Zp

It is unknown whether or not other Lincoln Losers will officially switch their allegiances, but the reality is that even if they don’t make it official, they have already joined up with the Democratic Party. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, right? Many of those who became neocons were Democrats previously. Now, they are just returning home.
But it is worth noting that one of the best things that could happen to the Republican Party and the conservative movement would be the Democrats welcoming the NeverTrumpers with open arms. If there is anything that these individuals excel at, it is failing miserably. Why not celebrate them bringing their loser ways over to the left?
