Democratic Pollster Has Some Horrible News For The Progressive Crowd

The extreme left faction of the Democratic Party isn’t going to be too happy about this. Despite their efforts to foist their silly slogans and pie-in-the-sky policies on the rest of the Democratic Party, evidence continues to surface showing that the rest of America just isn’t into it.

The New York Post reported that “longtime Democratic pollster” Douglas Schoen said Democrats should stop pushing “defund the police” and other issues if they want to compete in the 2022 midterm elections.

“The data says to me that if the Democrats go the progressive route they can lose the House and the Senate overwhelmingly in 2022,” Schoen said. “The incoming Biden administration has to understand that unless they take a moderate path, that is a likely potential outcome for the Democrats.”

Schoen spoke with 1,000 respondents during a post-election poll that was conducted between Nov. 8 and 9.

From the Post:

“When asked whether Joe Biden’s victory was a ‘mandate for centrist policies’ or a ‘mandate for progressive policies,’ 62% of respondents said centrist, compared to just 28% for progressive.

The survey also found that the party was hurt in down-ballot races by the ‘defund the police’ movement championed by progressives. A total of 35% of voters said the issue made them ‘less likely to vote for Democrats,’ while just 23% said it made them more likely.

The poll reconfirmed longstanding trends showing self-identified conservatives outnumbering self-described liberals 37% to 24% (36% said they were ‘moderate’).”

The pollster told the Post that most Americans do not support far-left radicals like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

“The hardcore activists, they like AOC. The rest of the country outside of hardcore party activists are not so keen on AOC or her agenda,” he explained. “The question for the Democrats is how to keep the progressives on the reservation without fracturing the party.”

The poll also found that “roughly seven out of 10 respondents agreed with statements urging moderation from centrist Democrats like former Sen. Claire McCaskill and Rep. Abigail Spanberger.”

The results of the poll support former President Barack Obama’s suggestion that the Democrats should abandon “snappy” progressive slogans made popular by AOC’s ilk.

“I guess you can use a snappy slogan, like Defund the Police, but, you know, you lost a big audience the minute you say it, which makes it a lot less likely that you’re actually going to get the changes you want done,” he said during a podcast interview.

The pollster’s findings only support what anyone with common sense already knows: Americans don’t want radical extremist policies. Even those who vote Democrat are not in line with the far-left progressive faction, and the establishment knows this. The civil war will be fought vigorously on the left, but should the socialist faction win power, it won’t look good for the party unless AOC’s ilk manages to persuade more Americans to embrace Marxism.

This isn’t an impossible scenario. The far-left is in control of the universities, media, and other avenues through which ideas are spread. While American attitudes today do not track with socialist ideology, this could change in the near future, especially if the conservative movement continues to fail to attract younger voters.
