WATCH: New York Officials Try To Enforce Restrictions Business Owners. It Doesn't Go Well.

It looks like at least some New Yorkers have become fed up with Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s ridiculous coronavirus restrictions. After state authorities attempted to interfere with a meeting of New York business owners in Buffalo, they were met with a level of resistance they likely did not expect.

On Friday, a number of business owners gathered inside an Athletes Unleashed gym in Orchard Park to discuss the impact of the governor’s COVID restrictions on their companies, according to a report from WBEN. Officials from the Health Department and sheriff’s office showed up after an anonymous person reported the business owners for holding a gathering of over ten people in violation of Cuomo’s rules.

At the start of the video, one of the attendees attempts to reason with the officers, telling them that their businesses must remain open if they are going to make a living. “I’ve seen clients die because they’ve lost their livelihood,” the man said. “I’m asking for [you guys] to have some compassion for the people that have lost everything.”

Later in the conversation, another business owner interjected. “Go get a warrant,” he snapped. “This is private property. … This is private property, [they’re] not wanted here.”

“You should all be wearing masks; how come you don’t have masks on?” one of the officers asked.

“Don’t worry about my health,” the business owner shot back, “My health isn’t your concern.”

“It’s a government mandate,” the sheriff said. “It’s the law.”

The business owners responded by pointing out that the restriction is “not the law” and that the mask mandate is an executive order that was not made into law by the legislature.

The altercation continued, with the business owners telling the officers that they “have to leave” and demanding that they get a warrant. One of the attendees shouted, “[Mass] civil disobedience starts now!”

“You don’t get to violate the Constitution,” one of the participants said. “You don’t circumvent or subvert the Constitution.”

Finally, the officials left the building as the business owners cheered.

Residents of states like New York and California have become more incensed as their leaders impose even more onerous coronavirus restrictions while flouting their own rules. California Gov. Gavin Newsom came under fire when pictures showed that he attended a dinner gathering and was not wearing a mask in compliance with his own orders.

The New York Daily News reported that New York officials engaged in the same hypocrisy at a recent event. Several Democratic officials attended a party on Thursday without adhering to COVID restrictions.

From the New York Daily News:

“Photos of a celebration for Carlo Scissura, head of the powerful construction trade organization New York Building Congress, show revelers in close quarters without masks.

Attendees included Deputy Brooklyn Borough President Ingrid Lewis-Martin and former Brooklyn Democratic Party Chairman Frank Seddio.

In one image, about two dozen people are seen mingling with one another in an ornate dining area while celebrating Scissura’s 50th. Only two of them are visibly wearing masks.”

The news outlet also noted that “In another shot, there are a dozen people crammed in the dining area, with just one person wearing a mask. Seddio can be seen in the background chatting with Lewis-Martin — neither of them with a mask.”

The bottom line is that the more Democrats impose restrictions that they won’t even obey, the more angry people will get. While small business owners in New York are struggling to make ends meet, the progressive elites are wining and dining themselves at swanky parties without even trying to follow the rules they created. Unfortunately for them, “do as I say and not as I do” won’t work for them much longer.
