Looks Like ‘The Squad’ Just Got A New Member

It appears that the election has provided Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rashida Tlaib (D-MN), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) a new ally. In 2021, the Squad will have a new member to aid in their effort to pull the Democratic Party farther to the left in the upcoming civil war.

Cori Bush, a nurse and Black Lives Matter activist, handily won her election in Missouri and became the state’s first black congresswoman. She won a surprising 84% of the vote in the state’s 1st district. “This is definitely a night to remember,” Bush told supporters during her acceptance speech.“This has been a historic day from the beginning to the end.”

Like the rest of the Squad, Bush had the support of the Justice Democrats, a progressive political action committee whose objective is to elect socialist candidates to replace moderate Democratic politicians. In August, Bush scored an upset victory against longtime incumbent Rep. William Lacy Clay.

Bush became involved with the Black Lives Matter movement in 2014 after Michael Brown, a black teenager, was killed by a white police officer in Ferguson. His killing ignited an outpouring of outrage despite the fact that progressive operatives spread a false narrative about the details of the shooting. She participated in the protests against the shooting and led demonstrations in her district.

More recently, Bush has participated in protests against the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. She supports the usual socialist policies that have been championed by the Squad, including Medicare for All, “free” college education, open borders, and the Green New Deal.

Regardless of who wins the presidency, it is apparent that the progressive wing of the Democratic Party is gearing up for a battle against the establishment for the soul of the party. The two warring factions have already traded blows, but we can expect to see the conflict intensify in 2021. Members of the socialist-leaning crowd have already indicated that should Biden win, they will pressure him to move further to the left.

AOC and the Justice Democrats attempted to primary other moderate Democrats during this election season, but did not succeed. However, the fact that they managed to get Bush elected shows that they will still be a force to be reckoned with on the left. At this point, it’s hard to predict who will win this struggle, but the Republicans would be wise to keep an eye on the fight because it will likely determine the nature of the opponents they will face in future elections.
