WaPo Depicts Cruz's Daughters As Monkeys, Media Focuses On His Reaction

There is almost nothing that can be said about Republicans or conservatives that is considered over the line. Even when it is, it’s interesting to see how the media covers it. In many instances, the focus by the media is not on the issue or subject, but the reaction of the person, Republicans as a whole, officials in the GOP, etc.

Washington Post political cartoonist Ann Telnaes thought it would be a good idea to draw a cartoon depicting [mc_name name=’Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’C001098′ ] ‘s daughters as organ grinder monkeys. Telnaes defended what she did saying:

” [mc_name name=’Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’C001098′ ] has put his children in a political ad- don’t start screaming when editorial cartoonists draw them as well.”

This is a silly excuse. [mc_name name=’Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’C001098′ ] didn’t have his daughters bashing Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. It was a cute ad designed to show Cruz in a different light. In addition, she’s a complete ignoramus if she truly believes this was the first time a political candidate has used their kids in a political ad.

The interesting part of all of this is how the media saw it. As I noted earlier, the media, who as a whole favor Democrats over Republicans never focus on the act when something like this happens – when it happens to a Republican. Here are some headlines:

It’s something, isn’t it?

People may forget the name Elizabeth Lauten, but not what happened to her. She was the communications director for Rep. Steve Fincher of Tennessee. One day on her private (or so she thought) Facebook page, she made some comments about President Obama’s daughters. The comments were relatively tame but the media reacted with a fury as though Lauten posted an ad in the middle of Times Square calling them out. Here are some of the headlines from that episode:

ABC News:Congressional Staffer Resigns After Disparaging Comments About Obama Girls

CNN:GOP staffer critical of Obama girls resigns

HuffPo: GOP Staffer Elizabeth Lauten Resigns Following Comments About Sasha, Malia Obama

MSNBC:GOP staffer to resign after slamming Obama girls

WaPo:Hill staffer Elizabeth Lauten resigns after remarks about Obama daughters

Notice the major difference? Every headline about Lauten and what she did. No headlines that say,

“Democrats blast Congressional staffer for comments about Obama’s girls.”

That was just the tip of the iceberg. That story was the lead on NBC Nightly news with truth-telling extraordinaire, Brian Williams. The media camped out at Lauten’s parents home, dug into her background and chased down childhood friends for information about her. To this day she still has to deal with the consequences of making some innocuous comments she thought would not be passed on to the media by a Facebook “friend.”

Meanwhile, Ann Telnaes will continue draw her political cartoons and in private (and in somewhat in the public), be held up by her peers as some kind of martyr for freedom of speech and the press.

It is example 23,843,840,843,757 of why conservatives have such a distaste for the press.
