A new poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports and The Heartland Institute confirms that President Joe Biden could be the first-ever lame-duck president less than one year into his first term.
According to the poll, 46 percent of likely voters would vote for former President Donald Trump if the next presidential election were held today. On the other hand, only 40 percent of likely voters would vote for Biden.
Digging deeper into the poll, it is becoming clear that several groups who have historically supported Democratic presidential candidates could be on the verge of changing their preferred political party.
For instance, 43 percent of women said they would support Trump, which would be a large increase from 2016 and 2020. Moreover, 38 percent of Hispanic voters said they would choose Trump.
Among independent voters, who will likely determine the next presidential election, Trump would receive 45 percent of their votes, with Biden receiving 29 percent.
All in all, based on the poll, it seems safe to say that voters have decided President Biden is not worthy of a second term. This is exemplified by the fact that 52 percent of likely voters have a “somewhat” or “very unfavorable” impression of the sitting president.
On the flip side, less than one year after he left the Oval Office, 51 percent of likely voters have a “somewhat” or “very favorable” impression of Trump.
These numbers should not come as a great surprise because Biden’s first year in office has arguably been one of the worst of any president in modern history.
Consider.
Biden was handed an economy in the midst of a V-shaped recovery with low inflation as well as affordable and abundant energy.
However, due to his war on U.S. energy production, gas and energy prices have skyrocketed. Under Biden’s stewardship, the inflation rate is at a 40-year high of 7 percent. His federal vaccine mandates have caused an untold number of Americans to drop out of the workforce. And, perhaps most significantly, he has completely mismanaged the ever-worsening supply-chain crisis.
As if his mishandling of the economy was not enough to alienate his former supporters, Biden has woefully mismanaged the pandemic as well.
While campaigning, Biden repeatedly promised he would “shutdown the virus.” Yet, one year later, more Americans have died from COVID-19 under Biden than during Trump’s presidency.
What’s more, Biden inherited three vaccines, multiple therapeutics, and a robust testing regimen courtesy of his predecessor. Unfortunately, Biden has failed miserably in his quest to “shutdown the virus,” which was a central premise of his candidacy and his chief argument against Trump.
Aside from his failures on the economy and pandemic, Biden has also allowed the Southern border to become a sieve for illicit drugs, especially fentanyl, to pour over the border. More than 100,000 Americans died of drug overdoses during Biden’s first year in the Oval Office, a truly atrocious development.
Biden has also instructed his attorney general to target parents who dare to attend school board meetings, laughably labeling them as “domestic terrorists.” No wonder women are abandoning Biden in droves. Moms want the best for their children, and they know critical race theory and remote learning are not in the best interests of their children.
On the foreign affairs front, Biden has been an unmitigated disaster. His debacle in Afghanistan demonstrated his weakness and incompetence. As has his handling of aggressive regimes such as China, Russia, and Iran.
Unlike Biden, Trump embraced peace through strength in foreign affairs. Although Americans were turned off by his bombastic tweets, they obviously appreciated the sense of calm that reverberated around the world due to a resurgent United States.
Unlike Biden, Trump’s economic policies and domestic agenda made life better for all Americans, namely those in the lower- and middle-classes.
Lest we forget, before the pandemic, the U.S. economy was booming with record-low unemployment rates for many minority groups. We would also be remiss to ignore the huge benefits of Trump’s tax cuts, regulatory reform efforts, and “America First” trade deals.
As we approach the one-year mark of Biden’s presidency, it is apparent that voters are already disenchanted. The bad news is we could be in for three very long years. The good news is that Americans are well aware of the utter failure of the Biden administration and are longing for a return to pre-pandemic America.
