Why I’m Considering Running for President

Over the past several months, I’ve had the privilege of traveling around the country with Our American Revival, sharing our message of how to tackle difficult problems and repeatedly win tough policy fights with bold, conservative reforms. We’ve spoken with thousands of hard-working Americans, and the response has been incredible.

But we’ve done more than just talk. We’ve listened. In state after state, the message we are hearing from people is simple: America needs a new leader – from outside of Washington – with a record of not just talking about conservative principles, but fighting for them and winning with them.

I have heard these voices loud and clear. That’s why I am launching a testing the waters committee to gauge support for a presidential run. This will be the final step before I decide whether I become a candidate for our nation’s highest office, and I urge you to sign up at ScottWalker.com so you can be among the first to know when I have made this important decision.

There are many accomplished people eyeing the GOP nomination for president.  Some want you to think they fight. But speeches aren’t fighting or winning. Others have won elections but haven’t fought any big fights. In Wisconsin, we have a record of doing both.

As I came into office, the state faced a $3.6 billion deficit, the rainy day fund was nearly drained and state and local officials were hamstrung by big-government special interests. We turned the state around using a strategy that’s rare in politics: we stood on principles and fought for them relentlessly. We got the job done.

Liberals and union bosses didn’t like our reforms, so they flooded the Wisconsin Capitol with 100,000 protestors. They tried to intimidate us, but they only strengthened our resolve. When the scare tactics failed, they and their Washington allies tried to recall me from office. We won the recall with more votes than I received the first time I was elected. After that we won another election – our third in four years. All in a state a Republican presidential candidate hasn’t carried since 1984.

We took on the special interests and won, putting power back in the hands of taxpayers where it belongs. We turned our deficit into a surplus. Our rainy day fund is 165 times bigger than when we first took office.  Our pension system is the only one fully funded in the country. We improved schools by making it easier for them to get rid of bad teachers and hire good ones. We did this as we cut taxes by more than $2 billion and cut the unemployment rate from 8.1 percent to 4.6 percent, the lowest since 2008.

We passed regulatory reform, lawsuit reform, Castle Doctrine, concealed carry, pro-life legislation and a law requiring a photo ID to vote. We defunded Planned Parenthood and became the 25th state to enact a Right to Work law.

Time and again, we fought and won for hard-working taxpayers, unapologetically making our case based on a record of big, bold conservative reforms and real results.

Right now, America needs a champion who will fight and win for each and every citizen. I have a record of doing just that. If we can do it in a blue state like Wisconsin, we can do it anywhere in the nation.
