1. We Have Elena Kagan’s College Thesis
During the height of the cold war, Elena Kagan pursued her college thesis on socialism — exploring an ideology at odds with the United States whose leaders routinely and sympathetically sided with the Soviet Union. Her thesis began with a shout out to her brother Marc whose commitment to radicalism led her to explore her own political ideas. Her thesis ended with a lament that socialism had not advanced. There are a few folks on the right saying this is no big deal. They are seeing the trees instead of the forest. Couple this with Kagan’s writings after Ronald Reagan was elected, the causes she engaged in, and her hostility to the American military and yes, she is a socialist. She is Obama in a pant suit.Oh, and we have her thesis. You can read it for yourself. Please click here for the rest of the post.
2. Kagan “Not Sympathetic” Towards Rights of the People
Yesterday over at the Heritage Foundation Blog, The Foundry, Brian Darling begins exploring SCOTUS Nominee Elena Kagan’s rather poor record on 2nd Amendment rights. The issues arise from statements made by Kagan while she was a law clerk for Thurgood Marshall. Please click here for the rest of the post.
3. Ron Kind (D-WI-3) Wants The Government To Track How Much Your Daughter Weighs
Hey, remember when we conservatives said that if you let the federal government into everybody’s healthcare, pretty soon it will stick its peering eyes and groping hands into our personal business?Welcome to “pretty soon,” thanks to Wisconsin Democrat Ron Kind.Kind has introduced a bill that would commandeer your health insurer to report to the federal government the body mass index (BMI) – i.e., height and weight – of your children every year from age 2 to 18.Please click here for the rest of the post.
4. Simply Put: PA-12’s Tim Burns Spells Out the Special Election
Republican Tim Burns can’t say it any better with his new “Simply Put” campaign ad. Burns differentiates the two parties succinctly and without slamming his opponent, either. The PA-12 special election to fill the people’s seat that the late Jack Murtha held for so many corrupt years is another opportunity to ring liberty’s bell throughout the halls of the Capitol. Voters in PA-12 take notice and do not be fooled anymore by the phony guise of good will of the Democrats and their supposed “fight” for the working man. Please click here for the rest of the post.
5. Documenting Evil: An Inconvenient History
Claire Berlinski has an intriguing piece in this issue of The City titled “A Hidden History of Evil: Why doesn’t anyone care about the unread Soviet archives?” Part research paper and part detective story, Berlinski traces the fate of the damning records of Soviet totalitarianism–an unappetising tale that does not turn rosy even with the advent of perestroika in the 1980s. A number of these documents have been physically and electronically smuggled out of Russia by researcher Pavel Stroilov and dissident Vladimir Bukovsky, who are now trying to publish them for a western audience. But they have found scant enthusiasm among translators and the academic presses that you might think would have an interest in disseminating primary documentation. Why?Please click here for the rest of the post.
6. California Pro-Life Council Owes Chuck DeVore and Me an Apology
The California Pro-Life Council is telling people in California I have called for Chuck DeVore to consider stepping down. I’ve done no such thing. As I’ve said repeatedly, I’m standing with Chuck. In fact, in the CNN interview CPLC is touting, I made that clear again and simply said, “Look, if Chuck DeVore hasn’t gone up in the polls within two weeks significantly, I’ll be with Carly Fiorina because Tom Campbell is that bad.” I said that two days ago. We’ll see what the trends in the race are in two weeks, but if they are consistent I’ll be calling on Fiorina to bail, not Chuck — he’s the only one moving up in the polls.California Pro-Life Council owes Chuck DeVore and me an apology for lying about what I’ve said to help their own candidate. Please click here for the rest of the post.
