Good morning from Carrollton, GA. As you wake up, it appears Barack Obama is picking Elena Kagan to be his Supreme Court pick. You can find out more here.I don’t normally go all in for braggadocios-ness, but I think today warrants it.Back in December of 2008, I got a lot of garbage piled on me from a lot of people for daring to support a guy named Marco Rubio. It is easy now to forget what it was like when I started touting Rubio and going into February of 2009 when I formally endorsed him.After all, the popular Governor of Florida, Charlie Crist, was going to get in. Where did I get off thinking I knew better than the NRSC?! But the RedState community pulled together and we went all in for Marco Rubio.In September of 2009, I started writing that Bob Bennett not only could be beaten, but should be beaten by a guy named Mike Lee. Again, there was a storm of anger, overreaction, and nonsense over me daring to say that — was I crazy? Was I trying to get the GOP beaten?Today, Bob Bennett is beaten.Along the way, we picked off Arlen Specter, Dede Scozzafava (which was a win despite what some Republicans say), Charlie Crist, and others. Soon, hopefully, we’ll beat Trey Grayson in Kentucky too, secure Mike Lee’s victory, then head to Colorado to get Ken Buck elected.Sadly, we did not see Marlin Stutzman over the line and into the primary, but we cannot win everywhere — though we should try. You can disagree if you want. You can throw rocks if you like. But RedState, unlike any other out there on the right, I think, really has the pulse of the conservative grassroots.RedState is leading the conservative counterinsurgency and are fully in tune with the pulse of the American conservative grassroots. 1. The Great Disentangling Has Begun: What Bob Bennett’s Defeat Means and Does Not

I’d like to think I might have some idea of what Bob Bennett’s defeat means and does not mean.After all, as with Marco Rubio, Doug Hoffman, and Marlin Stutzman, before others noticed, I was beating the drum — all the way back to September of last year on Bob Bennett.Pay attention now you media types who look for great meaning in all things considered. Sometimes you must confront the bold truths you do not naturally recognize because you have been trained up in the ways of a lazier time, an old reality when you could get by with simple shortcuts, and no one would call you on it.Your shibboleths are crumbling around you and you grasp it not. As you struggle to interpret what the tea parties do and do not mean, you media types and others are getting Utah all wrong.It’s not about a purge. 2. I’m staying with Chuck DeVore

I appreciate Sarah Palin. I know sometimes you read that I’m somehow a critic of Palin’s, but truth be told, I love the lady. You can say all day that she doesn’t have the “intellectual curiosity” to be President — which is to Palin as “Cheney’s gravitas” was to Bush — but you cannot deny this woman is fundamentally conservative, Christian, and would be a heck of a lot better than the present guy in the White House. For all of you who deny her intellect, you cannot deny her gut is conservative. I appreciate that.She stood with Doug Hoffman when few others would and she stood with Rand Paul when few others would. I appreciate being able to stand side by side with her in those races. But she and I part ways in California.I get that she endorsed John McCain. She would not be where she was, but for McCain. And I get that she endorsed Fiorina. In addition to Fiorina being the McCain campaign chair, there is a desperate desire among Republicans to stop Tom Campbell. When I said that Free Press, the fringe neo-Marxist organization pushing Net Neutrality, has as an end goal the nationalization of the mass media in America, I suspect some people thought I was exaggerating the threat. 4. Four Reporters Ejected from Gitmo Hearing after Revealing Name of Protected Witness

Four journalists were ejected from a military commission pre-trial hearing for alleged terrorist and Guantanamo Bay detainee Omar Khadr after reporting the name of a protected witness and one-time interrogator, the Pentagon acknowledged Thursday.“We threw some people out there today because they disclosed the identity of a protected witness,” said Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell. “He had been clearly identified as someone who needed to be protected. 5. The Tea Party Movement as a Libertarian Mob

There is an apocryphal story, truth be told it is more closely akin to a parable than a story, that tells much about the American character. As the story goes, an English nobleman is in America at some point in the eighteenth or nineteenth centuries, depending upon when you find the story, and he’s seeking directions or a room for the night or somesuch. He approaches an American farmer or rancher or backwoodsman and says, “My good man, where is your master.” The American solemnly stares and replies, “I reckon that sumbitch ain’t been born.”Segments of the left are all a-Twitter, so to speak, today over an article in the New York Times Review of Books by someone named Mark Lilla titled Tea Party Jacobins. Elena Kagan, Diane Wood, Merrick Garland, and Sidney Thomas are all on the short list to be President Obama’ nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court according to the Wall Street Journal.
