“Celebrity Rehab” host Dr. Drew Pinsky joined Fox & Friends’ Brian Kilmeade on his radio show to discuss Beto O’Rourke, the most recent Democrat to join the crowded field of candidates seeking the 2020 presidential nomination.
The two listened to a clip from Beto’s campaign announcement where he tells his supporters, “The only way for us to live up to the promise of America is to give it our all and to give it for all of us.”
Pinsky and Kilmeade snicker at Beto’s profundity.
Pinsky said, “I thought that was Tony Robbins.”
He added, “I’m just saying, there’s something gonna go down there. I can feel it coming. I don’t know what it is… There’s something not right.”
“That’s his new rock band, being like Tony Robbins.”
The two speculated about what the reason for O’Rourke’s appeal might be. Kilmeade noted that he certainly hasn’t “accomplished much.”
Pinsky said, “He uses a lot of expletives. People like that.”
Kilmeade asked, “What are you picking up?”
Pinsky responded, “Something in my gut. I’m not sure yet. I haven’t really examined it carefully enough. I just can tell there’s a disconnect between what people think they’re seeing and what’s there. That’s where I’m at.”
I have to agree. There’s a lack of substance. More importantly, there’s a real lack of accomplishment. Even House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was hard-pressed to name anything that O’Rourke had accomplished during his time in Congress. About all she could manage was that “Beto brought vitality to Congress…when he came, he came as a real champion for the environment.” My colleague, Brandon Morse, posted about Pelosi’s remarks here.
Now that O’Rourke has announced his candidacy, he will be subject to the same media scrutiny that all presidential hopefuls receive. If the last few days are any indication, the reality of this man, his depth of character and his achievements, or I should say lack thereof, will fall short of the media-created, fairy tale, rock-star image.
Dr. Drew is right when he says that “there’s something not right with Beto.” Jimmy Fallon seems to think so too. Please watch Fallon’s hilarious interpretation of Beto’s campaign announcement in the video above.
