The head of the Environmental Protection Agency ordered her employees to hurry up and finish the last round of regulations before President-elect Donald Trump takes over:
“As I’ve mentioned to you before, we’re running — not walking — through the finish line of President Obama’s presidency,” EPA Administrator said in a staff memo obtained by the Washington Examiner after Trump was declared the winner of Tuesday’s election.
McCarthy has an interesting interpretation of elections have consequences. We lost so cram even more unpopular regulations down their throats in the 70-odd days we have left.
According to the Washington Examiner, the EPA is still working on regulations for the oil and gas sector, finalizing new annual regulations for the nation’s ethanol mandate and renewable fuel blending requirements, as well as rules related to cutting carbon pollution from the nation’s coal utilities to combat global warming.
Some of those remain under court review after being stayed by the Supreme Court on Feb. 9 until all judicial review has concluded. Over half the states are litigating the EPA’s climate rules along with major industry groups and the coal industry.
Trump has made repealing the EPA climate change regulations part of his plan for the first 100 days in office.
Trump has made no secret of his disdain for the EPA’s agenda. Last year he told Fox News’ Chris Wallace, “Environmental protection, what they do is a disgrace; every week they come out with new regulations.”
Trump is considering Myron Ebell, director of the Center for Energy and Environment at the conservative Competitive Enterprise Institute, to help rein in the EPA.
