Majority of Democrats Favor Socialism

Bernie Sanders

Nearly six-in-ten Democrat primary voters are favorably inclined toward Socialism and believe it has a “positive impact on society.” Worse, the Democrats’ voters in every age group, every gender, and every race view socialism favorably, according to polling of likely Democrat primary voters conducted this month for the right-leaning American Action Network. Socialism was preferred least by Democrats’ who were over 66 years of age (36 percent preferred socialism, 28 percent sided with capitalism) and African-American (40 percent to 27 percent).

According to Politico, the polling was inspired by Democratic Party chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz was unable to describe the difference between a Democrat and a Socialist when pressed by Chris Matthews on MSNBC’s “Hardball.” The findings are similar to those of a Bloomberg/Des Moines Register Iowa Poll, which found 43 percent of likely Democrat caucus-goers said they would use the word ‘socialist’ to describe themselves.

It wasn’t that long ago that President Obama would get very defensive about being called a Socialist. But last October Jay Leno nailed Obama when he returned to the Tonight show standing in for Jimmy Fallon:

Bernie Sanders is getting a lot of traction. In fact, if Bernie Sanders wins, he’ll be the first socialist elected president since 2008. That’s just something to think about. [LAUGHTER AND APPLAUSE]

I understand the young folk being Liberal. There is that saying, if you are not a Liberal at 25, you have no heart. If you are not a Conservative at 35, you have no brain. But that doesn’t explain the Democrats’ preference for Socialism. That I blame on our unionized education system.
