Country music star Morgan Wallen was arrested and spent Sunday night in jail after allegedly throwing a chair from the rooftop of a Nashville, Tennessee bar on Sunday night. According to the arrest affidavit, the 30-year-old was on the roof of Chief’s around 10:45 p.m. on Sunday when witnesses watched him pick up a chair, throw it over the roof, and laugh about it.

The bar's rooftop, owned by another country music singer and songwriter, Eric Church, sits six stories above Broadway Street. Wallen, who was in attendance to celebrate the establishment's grand opening over the weekend, is facing three counts of felony reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct, which is a misdemeanor.

Two officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department were below on Broadway and said the chair landed three feet from them, according to the affidavit. Officers spoke with bar staff and witnesses and reviewed security footage, which all confirmed Wallen’s alleged actions, the affidavit states.

Blurry video clips of the incident were obtained and published by TMZ. Reports include allegations that Wallen was yelling once put in the back of a police cruiser.

In a statement, Wallen’s attorney Worrick Robinson said:

At 10:53 p Sunday evening Morgan Wallen was arrested in downtown Nashville for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. He is cooperating fully with authorities.

Wallen was arrested and booked just after 12:30 a.m. He posted a bond of $15,250 and was released from Davidson County jail around 3:30 a.m.

While the eleven-time 2023 Billboard Music Award-winning country musician has achieved remarkable success, this is not his first run-in with the law on Nashville's famed Broadway Street. In 2020, Wallen was arrested and charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct outside Kid Rock's Big Ass Honky Tonk Rock N' Roll Steakhouse at about 11 p.m. The arrest warrant alleged that Wallen was removed from the establishment for "kicking glass items" and engaged in verbal altercations with passersby on the street.

Nashville police called Wallen "a danger to himself and the public" and said:

Officers gave (Wallen) several opportunities to walk away with his friends, but he refused to walk away.

Following a 2021 controversy where he was recorded using a racial slur while intoxicated outside his home, Country Music Television (CMT) removed Wallen's music from their platforms, with the ban continuing for three years.

CMT representatives stated,

We do not tolerate or condone words and actions that are in direct opposition to our core values...

Several major organizations and venues, including the Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM) and radio stations such as iHeartRadio, also removed him from their platforms and canceled scheduled appearances. Additionally, Wallen's record label, Big Loud Records, suspended his recording contract indefinitely.

Wallen has since taken responsibility for using the slur, spoken of his recognition of the impact on others, apologized, and expressed a desire for personal growth.

Wallen's otherwise successful music career has been upended by show cancellations, criminal allegations, and racial controversy. Now, he is due in court, once again. His appearance is scheduled for May 3, which is the second day of the country star’s three days of performances scheduled at Nashville's Nissan Stadium.
