New Jersey Democrat Cory Booker has pulled a lot of awful stunts during his time in office, but this might be one of his lowest moments, and all in the name of complicating Texas Senator Ted Cruz's path to reelection.
Cruz introduced the "Take It Down Act," which would criminalize pornographic AI-generated deepfakes of minors, often used as revenge porn.
According to The Federalist, the bipartisan bill was just about to be voted on when Booker filed a last-minute objection. When asked why, he gave no reason.
This doesn't mean his real reason can't be gleaned. As The Federalist notes, it's highly suspected that Booker did this because he's good friends with Rep. Collin Allred who is currently running against Cruz for his senate seat. This caused Ted Cruz to call Booker out:
This has led observers to conclude that Booker’s primary motive was to deny Cruz a legislative victory during an election, since Booker is good friends with Rep. Colin Allred, Cruz’s opponent in this year’s Texas Senate race. Cruz understandably sounded off on this likelihood: “I sure hope he’s not standing up here denying victims of this abuse relief simply to score partisan political points … in order to believe he wouldn’t do such a thing, he needs to actually explain some reason for his objection.”
Cruz isn't the only one, either. One of the people who inspired this bill, a 15-year-old girl who was victimized by classmates in the way Cruz is trying to stop, spoke out against Booker as well. The kicker is that the girl is actually one of Booker's constituents:
Even more angry was 15-year-old Francesca Mani, who, according to Time magazine, “learned that boys in her class had used AI software to fabricate sexually explicit images of Mani and her female classmates.” Despite being one of Booker’s constituents in New Jersey, she ended up working with the senator from Texas to help bring justice for the victims of this harassment and “sextortion.”
As The Federalist points out, this is the same political game that Democrats accuse Trump of playing, usually pointing to the torpedoed border funding bill. What they leave out is that the bill was effectively not a border protection bill, and actually made it easier for the Biden-Harris administration to let more illegals in. Moreover, as Republicans reasoned, Democrats didn't need more money and power to close the border, they had all they needed now. It was just a power grab by Democrats.
But Cruz's act isn't a useless bill. It's something that needs to be passed right now in order to stop pornography of minors. Booker doesn't see this as important as making sure his friend can win his Senate seat against a Republican. The actual suffering and digital undressing of minors can wait for another time, according to him.
I say this a lot, but I can't say it enough.
The Democrats don't actually care about you -- they care about power, and they'll sacrifice whoever they need to in order to obtain it. In this case, it's America's children... again, especially its young girls.
Hopefully, this story gets out in a big way, and it's made clear that both Booker and Allred are willing to resort to villainy in order to achieve power. This shouldn't just secure Cruz his Senate seat, it should shine a light on where the Democrat Party's true priorities lie.
They're definitely not with you.
