Why Rep. Anna Luna Has Become a Sign of a Cultural Turn

When I was growing up, the Republican Party was very buttoned up. Crassness of any kind was seen as disagreeable, Republican gatherings meant dressing in your Sunday best, and there was an attitude of "turn the other cheek" whenever the left lashed out at you. You could see this exemplified by George W. Bush, who I would argue was the last of the old Republican leaders.

Before I continue, I just want to say that there are principles within the old Republican Party that I appreciate and feel should be kept. I think morality is, and should always be, kept in perspective. That said, I think it's good that conservatism is loosening up a bit and becoming far less formal and rigid. There's far less pearl clutching than there used to be, which allows for more happy warriors to take the stage.

Which brings me to Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican congresswoman who modeled a swimsuit for a beer company and has the left fuming over it. It's a moment that I feel truly shows us where we are in relation to the left, which has replaced the Republicans as the aforementioned pearl-clutchers. The difference is that the left doesn't seem to have a real morality, solely basing what is good and what is evil around what benefits the Democrat Party at the time instead of an actual time-tested and proven standard of goodness.

Here is the aforementioned video that's been making the rounds. In it, Luna is modeling a "Make America Great Again" one-piece bathing suit, which shows off her... assets.

To be clear, Luna's no stranger to modeling. She's been doing it for some time, and seems to like the one-piece bathing suit. She is an objectively beautiful woman who can pull it off.

Not every conservative is happy about Luna's display here, and to each their own, but the reaction from most conservatives is approval and applause. In fact, in order to make the left angrier, other conservative women have begun posting a picture of their own.

You can tell me what your reaction is to it below. I imagine my commenters will have wide-ranging views, but I think it's very interesting that maybe 20 years ago, Luna would have been shamed into oblivion and this would have been a major scandal. Now, it's only a scandal to the left.

But it's only a scandal to them because Luna is a beautiful woman who is allowing her physical womanhood to shine through, and that is a grievous sin to the left, which considers that a social faux pas because it "appeals to the male gaze." If Luna was actually a man, they might have cheered Luna on and called the video "stunning and brave." They would have loved the denial of reality and perversion of sexual replacement. You'd see it reported on favorably by major news organizations.

But because she is a beautiful woman, and an elected representative no less, they consider this a major breach in "morality." This hatred of all things normal and stable has caused spite to arise in the right, and now they flaunt things they would have considered inappropriate a couple of decades ago.

The thing is, looking at this from a greater cultural perspective, this celebration of Luna is indicative of a conservative culture that is defending what is good and normal by going on the offensive with these qualities. Women showing the left what a woman actually is and men cheering them on in celebration of that normality is, when you think about it, a perfectly normal reaction to what the left is doing.

If Luna had come out and started showing off her naked body, or if conservative women began devolving into pornographic displays, then that would be a bridge too far, and I think most of you would agree, but the sudden physical display of womanhood and the celebration of it is, in my opinion, a direct reaction to the left's attempt to destroy it culturally, and in my opinion, an appropriate one. The truth is morality, and conservative women are displaying the truth with hard evidence and examples in an age where the lie has become so pervasive it's sickening.

But it is a sign that the conservatism of today and the conservatism of then are two different beasts, and this is okay. The leftism of today is a different beast, and it requires a new kind of fighter to take it on.
