Montana's Governor Defends Stealing a Teenager From Parents Over Not Conforming to Transgender Agenda

As RedState previously reported, Montana's state child protective services came and took away the 14-year-old girl of a family in Glasgow. The parents, Krista and Todd Kolstad, were told that their child had been expressing "suicidal ideations" while at school and that their daughter Jennifer had been identifying as a boy named "Leo."

A caseworker appeared at the residence where Jennifer told the woman she had ingested toxins in order to attempt suicide but the parents knew this was unlikely as Jennifer had no access to these chemicals. Later, hospital tests turned up negative on any toxins in her blood. According to the family, Jennifer has undiagnosed mental illness including attention-seeking behavior.

While at the hospital, Jennifer was consistently referred to as "Leo" by the hospital staff. Moreover, she was offered to be taken to a facility in Wyoming where she could receive "gender-affirming treatment" without the consent of her parents. The family pushed back against this, and later that night, Montana Child and Family Services (MCFS) showed up with law enforcement and served the family papers to take Jennifer out of their care for "refusal to provide medical care."

What this amounts to is legalized kidnapping with the state setting up the means by which to claim custody of people's children by offering confused and impressionable children life-altering drugs and then stealing the child from the parents when they inevitably refuse to consent to it.

Governor Greg Gianforte and Lieutenant Governor Kristen Juras not only stood back and let this happen, but they defended the actions of the MCFS, claiming that it was necessary for the mental health of the daughter.

Gianforte created a thread on X, effectively setting the stage for the narrative by saying kids deserve to live in healthy homes with loving families free of abuse and neglect and that taking children from parents should be a last resort. He then goes into the story of Jennifer, suggesting that her parents were neglectful and abusive. He then says he asked Juras, whom he refers to as an "experienced attorney" and a "constitutional conservative" to review Jennifer's case.

According to Juras, the state was right to seize the child.

Gianforte bragged at the end of his thread that he banned "permanent, invasive, life-altering medical procedures on children, like puberty blockers, hormonal treatments, and sex-reassignment surgeries," but this rings absolutely hollow since his state just justified kidnapping a girl based on parents not wanting to subject their young teenage daughter to these procedures, and knowing full well these procedures can happen in Wyoming.

To review, Gianforte accused the parents of being abusive and neglectful and then stole their child for refusing to cave to the transgender agenda while bragging that he's stopped the transgender agenda. As of now, no other evidence has surfaced to justify this kidnapping by the state.

It's also important to note that Gianforte vetoed House Bill 37 which would require a warrant to remove a child from a home unless the child was in imminent danger.

I've said that there are elements of the left coming for your children openly. Democrats in Maine attempted to create a bill that would effectively allow them to do what Gianforte did, but thankfully the bill was shot down in committee before it could even get to the House floor.

However, this is clearly not just something that Democrats are getting up to. Republicans seem willing to do this as well as evidenced by Gianforte and Juras. While this is expected out of blue states and Democrat politicians, it's sad to think that your children aren't even safe under some Republicans either.

At the end of the day, authoritarians can wear masks of any kind.

To be sure, one of the top issues in America isn't a top issue, and it's the safety of your children around these authoritarian politicians. There should be no doubt where any elected official falls on this discussion and every single one of them, especially Republicans, need to make it clear through both word and action that they will work to set laws in place that prevent the state from taking children away from parents under the guise of "gender-affirming care."

It's disgusting to think that this kind of thought could even exist here in America yet it clearly does and it crosses party lines.
