MSNBC host Joy Reid was apparently so angry last night that she decided to casually toss out a racial slur toward Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
During last night’s election coverage, Reid sat on a panel and began discussing whether or not anyone on the Supreme Court is trustworthy enough to handle this election fairly should it come down to the Supreme Court having to weigh in. Reid took aim first at Clarence Thomas, calling him “Uncle Clarence.”
“If somehow [the Trump campaign] manage to stumble into the Supreme Court, do any of you guys trust Uncle Clarence and Amy Coney Barrett and those guys to actually follow the letter of the law? No,” she said. “It is a completely politicized Supreme Court that you can’t just trust that they’re going to do the right thing.”

The term “Uncle Clarence” is a spin on “Uncle Tom” which comes from the book Uncle Tom’s Cabin. The term is a slur used to describe a black man too obedient to white people.
This slur was lobbed at Thomas simply because he’s not a Democrat-leaning black man. Many black people who have a right-of-center ideological leaning have similar names thrown at them. However, not only was this racist toward Thomas, it was racist toward white people as well, as it suggests we somehow have control over a black man and for the malicious purpose of having black representation we can control.
Funny enough, no one on the panel said anything to Reid about the slur and let it go without challenge.
This is, of course, MSNBC, where racism and bigotry are okay if they go in one direction.
It wasn’t that long ago that Reid also came under fire for slurs she’s thrown around. In 2018 she came under fire after she misjudged her place in the leftist social justice hierarchy. She thought she could get away with using homophobic and transgender slurs in a blog she had written years ago but that blew up in her face when they came to the surface that year. Her audience began abandoning her over it.
It seems Reid is definitely the kind of person to throw around hateful phrases with reckless abandon, despite this kind of thing supposedly being taboo according to leftists principles.
