Everything is coming up Trump right now, and a new Harvard/Harris poll is throwing a few more reasons onto the pile of reasons Democrats should feel like they’re on the losing end of things.
According to The Hill, two-thirds of Americans are opposed to the idea of carrying out impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.
Democrats seem almost split, while a minuscule amount of Republicans would like to see impeachment proceedings push forward. Independents in favor of impeachment are a minority as well:
The latest Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll survey found that 65 percent of respondents oppose impeachment proceedings. A majority of Democrats polled, 56 percent, support impeachment, however, only 32 percent of independents and 14 percent of Republicans are in favor.
“It seems that impeachment is over as a real threat to the Trump presidency, though the base of the Democratic Party remains energized on the issue,” noted Harvard CAPS/Harris polling director Mark Penn. “Overall though, the voters want Democrats to get back to issues over investigations and they may pay a price for not listening to them.”
The poll also indicated that when it came to the Mueller investigations, most believe it’s time for the nation to move on from the idea that Trump colluded with anyone according to The Hill:
A majority of respondents, 58 percent, said it’s time to turn the page on the Russia investigations, including 60 percent of independents, although two-thirds of Democrats want to see further investigations.
With no reason to impeach Trump, it would seem voters are done with the Democrats throwing around the concept of kicking Trump out of office through legal proceedings.
If Democrats are smart, they will take these cues and drop the idea that Trump is a criminal. However, it would appear that many are still having a hard time letting go.
