SNL Gets One Right, Rips the Academy for Pressuring Kevin Hart to Apologize Before Stepping Down from Hosting

Broken clocks and blind squirrels don’t hold a candle to SNL who gets it so wrong so often that they look worse than a men’s rights activist at a feminist rally.

But when they do get it right, boy howdy do they get it right.

During their news segment last episode on Saturday, Michael Che addressed the issue about how hypocritical the academy is in regards to their problem with Kevin Hart, whom they pressured to apologize for remarks he made in a comedy special eight years ago after it was announced he’d be hosting the Oscars. These remarks surrounded his hopes that his son doesn’t grow up gay.

“Keep in mind, I’m not homophobic. I have nothing against gay people,” said Hart during his special. “Be happy. Do what you want to do. But me, as a heterosexual male, if I can prevent my son from being gay, I will.”

This, of course, sent the you-will-be-made-to-care crowd into a frenzy. Hart has addressed the comments repeatedly over time and apologized for his remarks. Regardless, once it was announced that he was hosting the Oscars, the social justice outrage mobs hounded the Academy and Hart. Hart initially refused to apologize again, but eventually caved under the combined weight of the Academy and the mobs, eventually coming to the conclusion that he just shouldn’t host the Oscars at all.

Che called this out during a segment on SNL’s “Weekend Update.”

“Well, that was short,” said Che making a dual reference to Hart’s intentions to host as well as his height.

“Kevin Hart had to step down as host of the upcoming Academy Awards because of homophobic tweets from 2011,” Che continued. “But didn’t the Academy nominate Mel Gibson for an award just last year?”

Mel Gibson made grossly anti-Semitic remarks long ago, and the Academy seems to have forgiven him completely.

“Also, if Kevin Hart isn’t clean enough to host the Oscars then no black comic is,” said Che. “The only black comic I know that’s cleaner than Kevin Hart is booked for the next 3-10 years.”

This was followed by an image of Bill Cosby.

As I wrote on the matter not long ago, Hart did absolutely nothing wrong, even when it came to hoping his son didn’t turn out gay. He made it very clear that he had no hatred for the LGBT community, but that he hopes his son grows up normally with a wife and natural born children of his own. This isn’t at all an evil wish. It’s hoping for a continuation of the Hart bloodline, and a hope that Hart can have grandchildren.

The only thing Hart did wrong was to apologize and legitimize the LGBT activist outrage mob, further making them feel as if they owned the moral hill. They don’t, and in fact, they’re the bad guys in this situation for continuing to try to string up a man who had already addressed comments from years ago and ruining what would have been a great moment for an innocent man.
