NBC's Olympic Coverage Goes Downhill, Apologizes for Misgendering Female Skier in the Women's Division

It has been an on-brand bizarre week in the trans movement, news-wise. We began in Canada, where the hyper-sensitive Syrup-ean authorities felt the need to be careful not to offend the transgender shooter by misidentifying him following a killing spree. They trotted out the term "gun-person" to properly address the condition of the murderer. Yes, when dealing with someone who gunned down nine individuals, the most important thing is getting the pronouns of the decedent correct. Wouldn’t want anyone getting upset over that priority.

We then turn attention to Italy, where the Olympics have been playing out, and the press has been incapable of focusing on the sports. On the regular, American athletes have been badgered to come out with criticism of the country’s politics, earning ire from the White House, and then having that reaction generate condescending comments about free speech protections from the elevated thinkers on social media. Apparently, the First Amendment stops at Pennsylvania Avenue.

So we now have a member of the curling team becoming a media darling, because when we need proper schooling on Constitutional matters, we all turn to a rock slider who plies his trade as a slip-and-fall personal injury lawyer.

(Meanwhile, Eileen Gu, a bred-and-heeled American going to Stanford who competes for China, never gets challenged on the oppressive Chi-Com regime during her fawning profile segments on NBC.)

This brings us to skiing, where during the moguls competition, NBC Sports suddenly found the faces of the producers turning as ashen as the slopes. An announcer committed an on-air inequity and misgendered a skier when, during the play-by-play in the women’s competition, a woman was charging downhill, and the commentator dared to refer to the competitor as “she.”

I’ll pause here to give readers a moment to recover from this offense…

The background here is that Swedish skier Elis Lundholm identifies as a man. Elis was born female, and competes as a female, yet referring to Elis as a “female” is a grievous offense. Lundholm is able to compete in this division because no steps have been taken to compromise the female designation, such as taking hormones or making any surgical physical alterations. Yet a woman competing as a woman shall not be considered to be a woman.

The network explained its decision and tried to pass off blame on others in an effort to sidestep outrage.

"NBC Sports takes this matter seriously," an NBC spokesperson said in a statement to OutKick. "We streamed an international feed with non-NBCUniversal commentators who misgendered Olympian Elis Lundholm. We apologize to Elis and our viewers, and we have removed the replay of that feed."

All that has taken place is the self-proclamation that Elis is a man, and yet NBC is behaving as if it were liable for a severe social punishment. Can we grow up at some point? Look, I am not militant on such matters. If you want to declare yourself to be something apart from your biological assignation, have at it. But while I do not care to get into a verbal scrum over such matters, there is also a line of pragmatism in place.

You are a biological female competing in the female division; ergo, you embody the pronoun in this instance. Anyone going with the feminine designation during said competition is not in the wrong. And if this is a hardline matter and Elis demands to be recognized as a male, then go compete in the male moguls. Otherwise, if an allowance is made for a declared male to be physically categorized properly as a female, then an allowance should also be in place for broadcasters referring to a competitor as a female to not be castigated as offensive.

But this social labeling is never considered to be a two-way street. We are commanded to make provisions and cater to these whims, yet at the same time, no one else is to be granted such grace. As a point of proof: I self-identify as The Sexiest Man Alive. However, I have yet to experience others respecting my designation.

Frankly, I find this deeply offensive, as this form of oppression I endure is not regarded sympathetically by the social activists. Apologies should be issued immediately, and appropriate steps taken to properly address my condition.
