A Fishtail of Two Cities: Florida Shows Minneapolis How to Work With ICE After Angling Violations

One of the impotent arguments offered up in the incessant debate over  Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity in Minnesota, and other blue states, is that there is not the same attention being paid in red states, such as Texas and Florida. The idiocy of this comment rests in the ignored fact that there is plenty of ICE activity in both locations, as well as other states. The difference is that in Texas, Florida, and many other states, you do not see the performative histrionics in the streets from the under-employed citizens, and this is for a solid reason.

In most red states, the local authorities are working in tandem with ICE, and the operations are smooth and uncontroversial. The result is that it does not generate the dramatic videos and compelling copy for the newsmakers to get riled up. The results of this teamwork are seen by a recent post from the Florida Fish and Game agency, explaining how they recently netted an illegal alien after an angling violation.

This particular detention covers two needed actions seen frequently in this state. Alien apprehensions have been executed apace, with Governor Ron DeSantis (R) recently noting how over 10,000 illegal arrivals have been apprehended in the Sunshine State, probably testing the capacity limits at Alligator Alcatraz. The other reality is that illegal harvesting of game in the state is an ongoing challenge as well. It is not an uncommon story to hear that newly-arrived “residents” were caught exceeding catch limits or collecting restricted species.

And this snook sniper causing trouble with his treble hook is not an isolated case. Last summer, another instance was seen when a trio was picked up for bagging over a dozen protected fish, and after some difficulty in determining their identifications, Border Patrol agents were called out, and the men were rounded up.

These handoffs by wildlife officers stand in stark contrast to what has been taking place in places like Minneapolis. More specifically, that would be what is not taking place. In that city, the local police and others have been told to stand down and not assist in the capture of illegals, nor have they been offering police protection for ICE agents.

Tom Homan recently arrived in Minneapolis like a parent returning from vacation and breaking up a house party. In his patented no-bullcrap fashion, Homan spelled out how the local authorities would begin working with agents on the streets, as well as the detention facilities therein, which were now allowing the passing of incarcerated illegals to ICE agents. This newfound agreement led to pulling out hundreds of ICE agents, no longer needed as overlapping support.

That this type of normal agency cooperation was considered news spells out the way this municipality has fostered the discord seen on the streets over the past few months. When officials are acting obstinately and flipping the proverbial middle finger to the Feds, that leads to the locals flipping them off literally. Additionally, with the police standing down, it encouraged the roused locals to act up, assured that the Law was not going to deter their misbehavior.

Jacob Frey unintentionally displayed how this policy was a new one, emerging from derangement, when the beta-mayor appeared this week on CNN. In a surprising fashion, he was challenged by Kasie Hunt on a key detail. She exposed that his call to not work with ICE had been entirely based on opposing President Trump.

Notice the stark difference between the two states. What you are looking at in one example is the application of common-sense policy and acting like adults delivering peace, while the abdication of responsibility was leading to mayhem. The only saving grace in Minneapolis is that it has been bitterly cold, tamping down the participation. Otherwise, the soy addict Mayor Frey would be overseeing another urban conflagration like the BLM “Summer of Peace”.

Florida shows how it is done, as opposed to the stark refusal to participate, where you have even the park rangers joining in with the effort. No surprise that when the Minny police announce they will remain in Dunks slamming bear claws, the gentry behave like rabid badgers. Meanwhile, in Florida, even the fish cops are enforcing things, and there is no upheaval to be found.
