The 4th of July weather tragedy in Texas with flash flooding taking over 100 lives to this point, and counting, was followed immediately by disturbing behavior in the press. What was a natural disaster saw many in the press working against human nature and deciding they needed to trash the character of President Trump. That they needed to do this before the facts were realized - and then in defiance of the known facts - is a testament to how corrupted the sensibilities of so many in the press have become.
The reality is that no staffing shortages or cancelling of pre-event warnings took place, evidenced by the fact that most of the press now has moved on from finger pointing. That any devolved into that automatic blaming is a sign of how bad things have become in our media environment.
Next we look at the New York Times, with a pair of reports that were wildly divergent in quality. In one case they became revealed to be 180-degrees incorrect on a story but in a case that reveals the temperament of their readership, in an example of the paper conducting solid journalism they had to come out and practically apologize in order to appease the outraged public…and even those inside its own newsroom.
Finally we look to the Caribbean and USA Today, where a new immigration policy has the nation’s newspaper bothered. It is interesting that to criticize a Trump policy involving immigrants from Haiti they are essentially agreeing with Trump on a previous criticism lodged against him concerning that same country.
Now, crack one open and savor some outmoded media malpractice and misinformation.
